Ahh, the day I have been waiting for. Phoenix FireStorm was just released and is available for download as of  9:02am Eastern Standard Time today. Here are the links

Linux : Debian :http://downloads.phoenixviewer.com/Linux/Phoenix_Firestorm_Preview_debian_i686_2.4.2.14918.tar.bz2

However I can not stress one thing enough. "This is a PREVIEW Release !!"

A direct quote from the Phoenix Blog states.
"Do understand! The Firestorm Preview build should be considered Pre Alpha! Not beta,, not Release Candidate.. it is pre alpha and as such it has a lot of bugs that still need to be worked out."

I'll be back sometime later today or early tomorrow with full reviews for the Windows and Linux platforms.

See ya then !

This is great news... pre-alpha is good, get some bugs ironed out along the way :)

Hi there Baeric

Yes I agree wholeheartedly, I'm currently using the FireStorm Preview and I absolutely love it. Bug's and all. I was just talking with Cummere Mayo earlier today, we both agree, competition between the SnowStorm and FireStorm V2 teams will optimally result in a really fantastic Viewer2

Thanks so much for reading this Blog and posting your comment

i am very pleasantly surprised about this firestorm release. this because i am an adamant 2.X hater, after losing all kinds of inventory items, broken links in the current outfit folder and just plain missing items.

Hi there Wizzy :_)

Thanks for taking the time to read this blog and post your comment. I spent most of yesterday using FireStorm, the Windows version is full of bugs, some of them downright hysterically funny. Linux seemed somewhat less so. That being said I would not even consider using it full time. But that is not it's intended purpose anyway's.

I would highly recommend you join the inworld Phoenix-FireStorm Preview Group and sign up on their JIRA wseb page at http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/secure/Dashboard.jspa

One thing is for certain though. FireStorm has finally proven that the horrid V2 User Interface is better of put away, far far away. And that we don't have to live with that wretched Side Bar, a way over sized camera control, and overall sophomoric design that never should have been released in the first place.

Keep coming back Wizzy

Second Life Viewer 2 has completely hosed my Avatar. Anytime I try to switch clothes, change a pair of socks - anything at all - I end up turning invisible. Linden Labs told me to keep an eye on the bug tracker... it's a very laborious process to get an AV to where it's visible - so I'm pretty much stuck using prim based AVs... which is very very lame! I am looking forward to trying out Firestorm and have heard so many good things about it. I would caution anyone from trying Viewer 2 at this time... seems like it's got some major major bugs...

Hi there Anonymous

You may want to give the official LL Development Viewer ~Project SnowStorm a try also

I absolutely love the Firestorm preview. I'm using it every day, even to build. It's already great, and I can't wait to see the final product.

Hi There GM,
This Post was, and still is the most read to date.
Yes the Pre-Alpha, was fantastic. It literally blows smoke on the SnowStorm viewer. I'm really looking forward to it's next release, sometime this month.

Thanks

Here we are months down the line and firestorm STILL sucks. V2 is bad enough but now that there's a second counter intuitive POS viewer out there we have our choice of junk. LL should be ashamed, and phoenix even more so since they had the chance to fix LL's fuck ups and didn't

I would like to know how to get back inventory lost out of my current outfit folder when I tried out FireStorm. Like a firestorm, my outfit was wiped clean out and I am not a happy camper.
