SeconLife "Project SnowStorm Suffer's Major Setback's" Esbee Linden Leaving Linden Lab

Well it was bound to happen sooner or later, quite frankly I thought it would be later. Yesterday Grumpity ProductEngine, the lead independent developer on the LL Project SnowStorm Team announced that a number of open issues being worked on had come to an abrupt halt. The reason ? Seems several key independent SS developers have left the project team. No reason was given, I have my own suspicion's and  think those are already well known to anyone that has been following this blog for the past 5 months or so. It is not that I don't see hope for V2 in general, it just has seemed to me the past few week's, that the overall morale of the team, was gradually slipping into a slump. I cant say that I blame them, when your handed something as broken as Viewer2, most people would just say, buy a new one. It's kind of like electronics these day's, If my DVD player were to go on the fritz, repairing it would not make economic sense, unless it was an extremely high end expensive piece of hardware. Here in lies the Lab's current dilemma, Viewer2's underpinning's are Extremely High End, and ton's of money has already been invested. It is really to late to bail out now. The Lab will have to fix it. Plain and simple, there is no turning back.

Then today, another major blow was struck when the SnowStorm Product Manager, Esbee Linden sadly announced during her Office Hour Meeting, that Friday January 21 will be her last official day as a LL employee. This is really to bad, Esbee is a wonderful person, and has put her heart and soal into the SnowStorm Project. Personaly I will miss her a lot. Even with all the bashing and ranting I spew forth about V2, Esbee has always been very kind and talkitive with me.

*Wipe's a tear from my eye* and wave's Byee~Byeee to Esbee, I sincerely wish you the very best, and please feel free to drop on bye for a visit in SL anytime. *Extra Bigg Huggs* my Friend :_)

Can someone explain to me all the whining about Viewer 2, other than "it sucks...hate it...blah..blah.." I started with V2, and it works fine for me. I tried another viewer or two, and they were fine, but I found it hard to change outfits or follow multiple group chat with the others. Viewer 2 works fine for me - maybe some folks just don't like change? I keep reading all the negative complaints about viewer two, but no one actually gets specific. I'm not negating or dismissing anyone's opinion, I would just like to hear a reasoned, non-emotional, logical description of what is so bad. Most of what I see from a newb's point of view is just whining and sour grapes.

Hi there Anonymous, If you read back in this blog from about August of last year, you will see I am critical sometimes, other times I praise accomplishment's. It does not matter what Viewer I am writing about, different versions suit different people's needs accordingly.

I am happy that you enjoy using V2, and thank you for reading my blog and taking the time to comment. Please feel free to stop back any time.

P.S. the official LL V2.5 Beta was just released today.

What do you mean by 'several key independent SS developers' - did you mean open-source?

And I also very sad that we will be losing Esbee.
