Working with MegaPrims "Opensource Obscure's Wonderful Gift to SecondLife"

If you are unfamiluar with Mega Prims as a building tool, you are totaly missing out on a great oppertunity to not only cut down on your parcels overall prim count, but the ability to create some truly amazing builds.
You will need to use an advanced 1.x series SL viewer, such as Ascent, Dolphin or Phoenix in order to fully utilize the potential. Forget about Viewer 2 in this case. I think my position on that is already well known.

I will be demonstrating some techniques I have learned in my SandBox. In order to help people interested in building things in SL I have decided to make this area Public, all I ask is that you clean up after yourself when you are finished. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Cristal%20Cove/103/124/701

I have placed some Mega Prim packages here for you to take into your inventory. So lets get started.

The main thing to keep in mind is something referred to a a Bounding Box to make a long story short, is where the prim starts and stops being a prim.

With Mega Prims all the rules change a bit. In other words, you may inadvertently intrude upon your neighbors parcel of land and not even be aware of it.

As you can see, using the Slice Begin and End option determines the LL servers, relative actual location of the prim. This can be a bit tricky to get the hang of at first, but once you figure it out, you will be able to create some very incredible low prim builds.

This recent build is composed of about 80% Mega Prims, it would have been impossible with out them.

I am going to lay off the Viewer 2 bashing for a while, and concentrate on building tips & tricks for the next few weeks. I hope you enjoy my madness, and please feel free to contact me in-world.

JayR,
with regard to the title...I'm honored, but I only created a few hundreds of original megaprims in May 2008.

Megaprims already existed in Second Life before then, and almost all of them had been created by the awesome GENE REPLACEMENT.

So it's Gene (aka Plastic Duck, aka Griefer Overlord if I remember correctly) we must thank.

THANKS GENE LOL
