I'm in a ranting mood

I ranted to the Phoenix Project team this morning. I thought you might like to see what I wrote. I won't tell you what, if any, responses there were.

So, is LL intentionally buggering their code to make it difficult for everyone? With my older nvidia (and PC) I had expected low FPS but I never ever ran out of RAM, fuzzy textures were never an issue, black textures were never an issue, disappearing baked textures were never an issue, no wild FPS swings, no microfreezes. Now we have all these problems cropping up, we complain about them, but they seem unaddressable. Yes, you can try to blame them on settings, but these are default settings in most cases. Why does the viewer come so configured? No, it's not always the settings because we try all the tweaks that are suggested, and perhaps they cure one issue but they present a new one.

Are we destined to suffer through these problems and our own frustration just to hear every other user bitch and complain about the same problems to us as support staff?

Most of you will not have encountered these problems. They seem related to Windows 7 or Vista or the more recent Mac OS, the newest and best nvidia and ATI video cards, some of the recent video card drivers, and the development builds of SL Viewer or Firestorm.

If you run the development SL Viewer, or are a beta tester for Firestorm and you're encountering some of the problems I ranted, let Linden and Phoenix Project know. Be a thorn in their foot, remind them every step of the way that these problems need to be addressed. It really doesn't matter who is to blame for the problems, as long as they're resolved.

And if you're one of the users who has bitched and complained to me about these problems, I am right there with you. I don't necessarily want to be bitched at about something completely out of my control, but you gotta rant to someone.

I agree 100%. I am sick of crashing constantly and it being blamed on "settings" when my set up worked like a charm previously. It's all because of this mesh crap which to me, looks crap and I see no reason why we have to suffer months of poor performance just so some folks can "play" with mesh.
Too many bells and whistles instead of solid basic user performance!

Hi there Ziggy

I'm gonna have to agree with ya on that. Eventually everything will work out in the long run. But until then we gonna have to put up with a certain amount of bullshit.
