SecondLife : The Reality Of Unreality

By Avatar JayR Cela

What is real, and what is not real ? When it come's to virtual world's pretty much everything is in your mind, and on your computer screen. It is easy to be critical, sometimes making comment's that are derogatory of people. Lord only knows I have made a number of comment's here on this blog, that I wish I could take back. But that's not going to happen. It's already in print.

It's pretty well known that in RL I am a disabled person, mostly mentally, and I do like to explore Virtual World's. This Unreal Reality has allowed me to feel like a whole person.

    Thank You SecondLife

In second life, our representations are called Avatars. In fact, that seems to have become a common term for a representation of a RL person in a virtual world of some type. Whether it be WoW, SL or whatever.

Avatar comes from the Hindu. Its original meaning is the manifestation of a god in the mortal world. I think if we carry that forward to our reality, it makes sense. An SL avatar is the extension of our RL person into virtual space.

That doesn't make it less real. While we leave our meat bodies behind, our minds, feelings, perceptions, prejudices, etc. All these 'immaterial' things manifest quite nicely in SL. And are just as real there, as in 'real' life.

SL can not replace RL for us at this point, but it can fulfill some of those needs that our minds...Our souls...Need. And those needs, and their fulfillment, are quite real.
