Virtual World Gaming : Why This Blog Is Changing Directions : Part 2

By Avatar JayR Cela

Recently a couple of people have asked me why the gradual change in direction of coverage on virtual world subject's covered here on this blog. The answer is pretty simple, at least in my opinion.

SecondLife is a dying architecture, people are loosing interest left and right, sim's are being abandoned on a weekly basis, LL simply want's to much money for what can be had  in Open Sim for a lot less money or in some cases for free, and that  will more and likely end up being the future. And the Free To Play model for on-line games is at worst an unstoppable force.

So I will try to cover as many things as I am able too, and that is about all I can tell ya right now.

JayR, I think you are being too harsh on Second Life. yes, Second Life is not growing -- but it is not in terminal decline either. Usership is flat, and has been for a while. Yes, sims are closing down, but consolidation is occurring-- and new attractions are opening as old ones close.

Second Life is also very profitable for Linden Lab now and is funding expansion in other areas.

What you say is true about movement to Open Sims -- but any increased usage in the Virtual World category is a good thing. Second Life itself is repositioning itself (or trying to) as a gaming platform.

But is Second Life in terminal decline? No. And you can still do an awful lot in Second Life without a premium account or owning any land, or spending much. Congrats on your new direction, and good luck!

Thanks Eddie, I've been having some fun with a few of these Free To Play games lately, that seems to do a good job at breaking up the monotony. LOL :_)

As far as SL goes, I believe I will be spending some more time on the InWorldz grid, and OSGrid, perhaps a few other Open Sim based VW's

For this week I am preparing a showdown comparison of all the existing 1.x Viewer's I can find. I'm looking for some help, I was just about to do a preliminary post about my plans. I f ya know of anyone who might be interested that would be kool / catch ya later

I guess this means you will be keeping track of Cloud Party, NuVera Online, and Xulu Universe in the near future ?

It does look interesting though. If you would like to do a post or series of various viewer's here on this blog.
