SecondLife And Slavery

By Avatar JayR Cela

How on Earth can any one condone SLAVERY, well it is alive and well within the Virtual World known as SecondLife.

This brazen act of indifference on the Lab's part, I find reprehensible, as far as I can figure it out. Slavery is an Evil Sickness.

And, I am talking about the Gorean Sims in SL and now in Open Sim based worlds.

This saddens me a great deal.

Hey JayR it is not my cup of tea either. But it is voluntary and people are having fun with it.

I do not approve of virtual snuff activities (I have heard rumors that this exist). I also feel that nazi symbols such as SS uniforms (they exist) cross the bounds of what is acceptable. I also violently oject to children avs having sex in Second Life. But much of Gor seems a bit like a game -- and not that bad compared to some other things.

Goreans and BDSM slavery in Second Life and Open Sim is not real slavery. It is play acting. When the slave logs off he/she is free again. He/she also controls the Restrained Life browser and can switch back to normal any time he/she chooses. I have no desire to be a slave or a master, but it takes all kinds.

I agree. Slavery is completely wrong. And reprehensible and should not be allowed in this world. Or Second Life for that matter.

But real slavery, by definition, cannot be voluntary!

What goes on in Second Life is not slavery. It is a role play thing that is voluntary. Anyone can leave it at any point.

If you want to ban the usage of the term "Slavery" to describe such an activity, or ban the usage of symbols that are offensive (I once almost puked when I saw a sign that said "slave auction" in Zindra I might support that as banning offensive language and symbolism.

But bondage role-play in Second Life is not real slavery. If some people want to sit around in collars all day let them. But real slavery it is not.
