SecondLife : Exodus Viewer Drops RLV Support : Avatar Slavery Not On The List Of Important Things To Do !

By Avatar JayR Cela

Considering all the crap going on lately in SL with the Server updates, acquisitions of smaller gaming start-up companies, I think we are seeing some rather minor death-troughs. RLV support seems to be one of them. I'm no expert on what this add-in to the SL platform really does besides add additional features geared towards sexual RP.

I have however been writing this blog for a number of years, and it should come as no surprise to anyone I absolutely detest slavery in SL, or RL. There is no excuse to think that any living human being belongs to anyone as their slave.

After reading Katherine's latest blog post about the Exodus Viewer, ( and her wording is a bit vague, but ) the message is clear, it no longer deserves support.

Way to go Kath + 100, it's time to drop this freakishly obscene code from the viewer.

Katherine took the decision to drop RLV support because it requires an interface to several modules of the code, and it was already hard enough dragging Exodus back to a state matching the current Linden Lab viewer, and the important (and non-trivial) addition of the changes for SSA. Congratulations to Katherine and the team on having made the necessary steps to do that.

I just have to say.... your opinion is fundamentally flawed... you say that this code is freakish and obscene... however its activated by choice... and yes while it is used to control another avatar it cant be "hijacked" so all the people who used it are doing so of THEIR OWN FREE WILL. the reason it wasnt included in the latest exodus update was because of the inherent difficulties in implementation not because she or any of the team considered it in any way abhorrent.... while i do agree you are entitled to your opinion... please dont slate people who use this feature... as i for instance used to use a teleport hud that required RLV to teleport me automatically...so there are more than just the more known roleplay uses for such a feature... and as for the roleplay uses... people do this of their own free will... because its what they enjoy... if you wish to focus on something that in my opinion is ALOT worse..try verbally bashing those huds that permanently steal an avatars anim permissions... there much worse than RLV

One of the most clever things i have come across in SL is a "wardrobe" I purchased from the marketplace. Upon a touch, this closet opens up a webpage showing a thumbnail photo of each of the dozens of outfits I have, plus thumbnails of the dozens or so variations of each said outfit. Once i choose the outfit I want, i click an image and "poof" I am wearing it!
The whole thing works by using RLV!
RLV is a tool, just like a hammer. I can build something awesome with my hammer, or I can crack you over the head with it. That does not make a tool good or bad.
