Virtual Worlds : Linux and The Current Nvidia Driver's : Video Game's : Some~Good~Some~Bad Info :_)

By Avatar JayR Cela

Hi there again, things are finally starting to normalize around here, the CinnaMateStudio project is going along at a pretty good pace. One thing that I discovered today in the process of trying to resolve different issues involving Nvidia Graphic's Cards or Chip-set's and recent Linux distributions are that there are a number of problem's :(

If your on an older computer that has an AGP graphic's controller, slot or integrated onto the MB, is more and likely that you will encounter some really odd crap trying to get thing's working correctly. It just depends on the Distribution version of Linux that you are working with. Oddly enough legacy ATI video card based on the older AGP connection architecture do not seen to have to much of a problem. I don't think Intel was into the graphic's arena thing back in day. *Shrugs* Oh Well :_)

Any Ways that's the Bad News ! There is a new feature built into the 310.xx and above drivers for NV cards called FXAA~or~Fast Approximate Anti Aliasing

All I can tell ya is Just Turn It On !! It will definitely make a noticeable difference in your Game Playing adventures while using Linux.

Basically, at least as far as I can tell, it take's what limited adjustment control you had before, and just auto-mates every thing. Now this feature is also available on the Legacy AGP 304.xx and up series for Linux as well, is just really tricky in some cases to get it working.

All I can tell ya is the new Xorg-x11 Nouveau universal OpenGL driver is the culprit, and since it is intended to be an Open Source alternative driver right now, it is just growing pains, but lets face it things are moving ahead at such a rapid pace, who know's what the heck is gonna happen in a year or two.

I believe the reason behind this whole Nouveau project stem's from the explosin of hand held devices / Smart Phones, Tablet's and such,  you combine that with the dominant command Nvidia has in the market place, and Google's Android just going through the roof ! Wow.....

It's a great idea, Smart Phone and Tablet Gaming is a huge market, with a lot of untapped potential still to come.

Oh by the Way / these two screen shots come from my CMStudio  v1.03a, its still really buggy on the JackD configuration side, but I will have a Distro spin available for DL soon, real soon I hope / LOL
