OpenSim : HyperGrid : What Happens When Your Host Grid .IAR Files are Lost ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

Sloppy management in any organization can manifest itself in a number of different ways, and sometime's with catastrophic consequences, all depends on how you look at the situation. I you are a regular HyperGrid Hopper, it is more than likely that you have taken the time to duplicate your most prized inventory items that are Full Perm on numerous Grid's.

If you have not taken the time to do this, Shame On You !!!, and it is your fault when you loose things due to circumstances beyond your control.

I recently had one of the Grids I use loose their .IAR DataBase server or I think the Hard Drive just decided to take a crap, well guess what, the last backup this particular grid had was from 3 to 4 weeks prior to the failure.

Luckily for me I duplicate everything on at least 3 other Grid's.

*Face Palm* OMG / Unbelievable !!*

     Am I upset ?

No I am not, because I have taken the time necessary to save things in various other grids.

Do yourself a favor and join as many HyperGrid World's as you can, and at least preserve you Name, establish your presence everywhere, and make redundant copies of everything you have taken the time to aquire

I think that might be a bit overkill, if you'll forgive my saying so.

You just need one extra account:
1)Your own grid (best option, then you can simply save the entire database)
2)An account at a connect-your-sim grid such as hypergrid.org. Then you can connect a simulator and save your inventory to an iar file and load it where-ever you go.

There's no need to have a lot of extra acctions -just one account, at a grid with console access, will do the trick. :)

Hi there Han, thanks for your comment.

I got a bit off track, with my rambling post, the point I was really trying to express is the importance of establishing your Virtual World ( HyperGrid Identity ) name across as many grids as you can, and to not rely upon one single grid to preserve your legacy.
