I have to admit that I enjoy the beauty of nature, especially lakes and rivers, creeks and so on. I also enjoy boating, especially power boats and other high performance watercraft.

The problem is I can not afford any sort of life other than the one I have, fixed income, low rent subsidised apartment, and it is not to bad, I have nothing to complain about. So I wanted to create my fantasy world. I have been gradually working on this project, and I doubt if it will ever end.

I want to honor a deceased friend and one of the founders of 3rd Rock Grid, and the Great Central Lake

Zinnia Frenzy : may she RIP

Without her similar vision to mine, this project would have never become the project is becoming. Also thanks to Dolfke Barbosa, Thoria Millgrove, Kira Tiponi, and way to many other people to list here, also special thanks to Emerson Ronas, and Light Sprite. So I say thank you everyone for contributing your ideas and making available so many free building assets.

I am just waiting to show off - share some pictures of the recently completed North East shore lines, with special thanks to all of the other friends I have met over the years, and now, I invite you for a look at the pictures and a visit.

There are many full perm assets available.

JayR Cela :_)

grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002:Great Central Lake

<span face="Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif" style="background-color: #141414; Updated mid September 2023
By Avatar JayR Cela

Article Update : mid September 2023 the link is working properly again too install the latest available viewer.

___________________________________________________________________________________

I don't get riled up very often about much of anything, however sometimes I do get a bit pissed off at narrow minded idiotic reactions to people just trying to use some OPEN SOURCE software in order to actually be able to use the Voice function while using the FireStorm virtual world viewer software while in a Linux desktop environment

A bit of a background, several years ago the company that supplies the Vivox voice services made a decision to no longer support the Linux platform. This resulted in the loss of the Voice feature in OpenSim and SecondLife for all Linux users.

This problem was able to be solved by using the Wine https://www.winehq.org/ Windows programs compatibility layer to run native Windows based programs while using your Linux desktop, and for the most part it works well.

There are a number of questionable issues that are of concern, this Flatpak, that is no longer working will download several window manager packages that are no longer supported and labeled so, at this point things get kinda weird, and it depends on which fork of the FireStorm project you download and use.

It seems to me that the Flathub Firestorm download is currently not only Broken it is : FORBIDDEN

─ $ ▶ flatpak update

Looking for updates…

ID Branch Op Remote Download

1. Yes my home grid, the one I consider home after being a resident for 12 years was ripped off by two people, one of them who was a long time trusted resident. I guess we should have known better that when you meet a know it all wind bag, you need to watch out before paying them any type of real currency to do a job they were not qualified to undertake in the first place, so shame on us. There are pros and cons to all three methods, my personal feelings favor Flatpaks over the later two, and I recently found the Firestorm viewer available on FlatHub : the Firestorm Viewer page. : https://flathub.org/apps/details/org.firestormviewer.FirestormViewer. This page does list an older and SL specific version of FS, however as is typical with Flatpak apps, the most recent version and with Opensim logins enabled is the one used during installation. It also seems that Vivox voice is working natively in Linux again as I can see the voice indicator dot operate correctly above my avatars head as I key up the mic. I have not had a chance to test this with someone yet.

And this info is listed in the viewer Help > About Firestorm menu.

Audio Driver Version: FMOD Studio 2.02.07

Dullahan: 1.12.2.202202071031

CEF: 91.1.23+g04c8d56+chromium-91.0.4472.164

Chromium: 91.0.4472.164

LibVLC Version: Using gstreamer 1.0

Voice Server Version: Vivox 3.2.0002.10426

If so this would mean no more having to use the Windows version of FS via WINE, just in order to use the voice feature again. Yay :_)

One thing I need to mention here is the Firestorm team does not recommend the download and installation of their viewers from anywhere other than those linked on the official FS Web site. You have been warned.

My experience using Flathub and Flatpaks via my distributions Application Store over the past two years have been good, problems encountered so far were minimal and minor, also Flatpaks by design are run in a sandboxed environment, so the likelihood of a virus or trojan infecting you system are extremely low. As always do a full system backup before any unrecommended application install, and you should be fine.

JayR Cela :_)
JayR Celahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12908338779734393254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5151918518232357421.post-64028353031568742342022-07-27T15:33:00.005-04:002022-07-27T15:33:37.442-04:00OpenSim : Hypergrid : Griefer Defense the Easyway for Estate Managers
Opensim has traditionally been considered by many resident's as being griefer free, or close to it. This is not the case recently, unfortunately one or more bad actors are spreading pain around the Hypergrid. Why they do it is not worth debate, what is worth talking about is how easy it can be to thwart, discourage and prevent it from happening to you. I am assuming that you have estate manager privileges and the land is set to a particular group with by invitation only group membership.

Once all of these parameters are verified, simply go into your about land settings and select options, in the everyone section turn off the build, object entry and run scripts check box's.

This is your best and easiest way to implement a solution that I know of.

JayR Cela :_)

JayR Celahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12908338779734393254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5151918518232357421.post-34755212470287238312021-12-07T13:55:00.001-05:002021-12-07T13:56:24.527-05:00OpenSim~HyperGrid : Update : New Graphics Card for OpenSim on a $300.00 Budget
By Avatar JayR Cela

Recently I was talking about my new PNY-Nvidia-Quadro T600 video card and how it works in OpenSim environments. This thing is a monster for my 3rd Generation Intel i7 3770 with 16 Gig of ram computer, it seems to be a good match for the computer a DELL Optiplex 7010 MT, with no discernable bottlenecks between the the 8 year old Intel i7 and the new GPU, it was an easy way to upgrade my HyperGrid user experience, while not emptying my bank account on an overpriced Nvidia RTX or AMD XT based card along with a power supply upgrade too.

I paid $269.95+tax at NewEgg online and $24 for two Mini Display Port to DVI adaptors, so I was just a bit over my budget, I am very impressed with the results I am getting in OpenSim. In closing I would like to say, depending on your circumstances I would highly recommend the card.

JayR Cela :_)

JayR Celahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12908338779734393254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5151918518232357421.post-42402706607453463082021-12-04T17:32:00.002-05:002021-12-04T17:36:43.102-05:00Upgrading my Graphics Card for OpenSim on a Budget
By Avatar JayR Cela :

Wow the words "on a budget" in current video card deals is a bad joke at best. I have purchased a new Nvidia T600 video graphics card recently / it is the same Tensor Core silicon used in the 20xx and 30xx series of cards / it is designed for entry level workstation graphics production and has by current standards a low price tag / it has 640 CUDA cores / 128 bit 4gig GDDR6 memory and 1.709 TFLOPS and 4 MiniDisplay Port outputs / it is state of the art low priced brand new card and is already being sold for prices way above MSRP / I paid $300 US for mine and is currently going for $400 US / was it worth it ? / yes and no / in OpenSim I did gain about 10 to 15 FPS for some situations / others not so much / in other non OpenSim related graphics programs ( retro game emulation ) it is a huge improvement from my previous Nvidia GT730 1 Gig DDR3 card / the thing I like the best about this particular card is that it does not require any additional power besides that supplied by the PCIe slot, and will work in low profile computer cases as well.

I'm just passing this information along/ for opensim use only and at $300 US was a bit expensive, however I feel it was worth it.

JayR Cela :_)
JayR Celahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12908338779734393254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5151918518232357421.post-62653449574165831382021-08-28T19:42:00.005-04:002021-08-28T19:42:46.339-04:00To any of the people that have read this Blog over the years
By Avatar JayR Cela

Please get vaccinated for this Covid virus.

you owe this to your fellow human beings, and it's your duty to help out.

PLEASE Get Vaccinated

JayR Cela
JayR Celahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12908338779734393254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5151918518232357421.post-53996843658642954942021-08-19T17:24:00.003-04:002021-08-20T10:17:52.891-04:00OpenSim HyperGrid : Saturday August 21 2021 - The Fabulous Wailers 50's-60's Rock & Roll band - With Lots of Free working full perm powerboats
It has been a while since my last post, I hope everyone is doing well.

I just wanted to tell you about the Fabulous Wailers event August 21 2021 on the Great Central Lake region in 3rdRock Grid. Location: grid.3rdrockgrid.com:8002:Great Central Lake

A very special event at the Great Central Lake region. "The Fabulous Wailers Radio Show"

The main reasons I decided to discard the original script, the one I chose is better documented and has the auto return function built right into the script, meaning that once a driver dismounts, the boat returns to it's original launch position. This eliminates the need for the rezz boards I have been and am still using now. This particular script is the same one used in the wonderful Jet Ski's I obtained from my friend Shelenn Ayres of the IMA " Infinite Metaverse Alliance " and lead developer on the OpenSim HyperGrid enabled : grid.metaversedepot.com:8002

I made 2 minor changes with this script, I increased the maximum speed from 4 gears to 6,and I don't really recall how I did that,

also with the Zodiac's I changed the drivers view to be a bit closer over the shoulder from behind view as opposed to the Jet-Ski's further back and more from above view. My first attempt at this approach resulted in a script that refused to compile, I managed to solve the problem by Stopping everything and adding back the Where Am I - responder script back into the root prim, then commented everything out in it, recompiled everything in MONO, Reset, and Run the script, I needed to do this twice for some reason. Once I did that everything worked fine. I truly love playing around with this stuff, recently I updated the Great Central Lake region in 3RG with a new and more challenging race course designed mostly for Jet Skis, it includes numerous jump ramps a few hazards to watch out for along with more wave hops added to my wave bump system, it's quite fun to attempt to make it thru the entire course multiple times at maximum speed with out experiencing some sort of crash.

The Jet Skis are Full Perm with a great script most everyone in already familiar with one variant or another, this particular one is very nice. I got this from Shellenn Ayres of the MetaVerseDepot Grid and its very clean, it also features the auto return function, thus once the rider stands the vehicle returns to its original position, this can prevent a lot of problems I am currently experiencing on this sim because people rezz multiple copies of the same boat when I use the llkill object function via a Rezz Board. Is not really a big deal, but for the Jet Skis as far as I am concerned this works best.

As you can see my bump wave system has now been expanded to the entire 3x3 lake region.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;
I was just wondering if anyone that happens to be reading this blog is into old school retro games that are devoted to some sort of race event's ?

The past several months I have been exploring numerous, race game's via emulators for the most popular console platforms at that time of relevance. It is fascinating to say the least. The Physics Engines used, the pro's and con's.

Currently we have Bullet Sim and ubODE, I was just wondering about your thought's and perhaps get a discussion started.
Ok so my last 2 posts I was talking about all the Free Full Perm boats and scripts, this time around I'll explain the environment I pieced together, by using large (256m in some cases) Torus shapes cut in half, then placed in various locations around the region linked together to what I call the height adjustment prim allowing for extra fine tuning the event's performance characteristics difficulty level.
It's not a perfect system, but it sure beat the heck out or trying to terraform the entire 3x3 Var exactly right. My next step was to add some surrounding mountain terrain along with some transparent barrier prims where necessary. If you want to see this all in action please feel free to stop by 3rd Rock Grid the Great Central Lake region. This Grid Map hypergrid jump point will get you directly to the region
As previously mentioned the boats and scripts are all full perm, however not on this region, I decided to make these No Copy, if your interested in any of what I have managed to collect so far. Just contact me and I'll take you over to the Boat Works sim and you may help yourself to what ever you like, minus a few things that are not ful prerm.

My last post I was about to explain what I did with all of these wonderful free full perm boats. Well I am back to explain further, The first thing was tracking down varios scripts, lots of testing with them, eliminating to ones I did not care for, and then 2 other things.

The terrain, and how would the boats react to the various environments I was experimenting with? Was it a River Run Race I wanted to create, or an Open Lake environment ? After quite a bit of testing I decided that in order that a truly competitive RIver Race event would require at least a 4x4 Var sim. and it proved more of a job than I was willing to take on. Eventually I decided on getting the 3RD Rock Grid Foundation to allow me to finnish up a 3x3 Region Zinnia Frenzy and I first hatched as an idea for Sailing, Kataramans, Kyacks and Jet Ski's. a number of years ago.

The key thing I have found with all of the testing I have done so far, it is the shape of the ROOT Prim as well as the boat you are trying to make behave realistically. The 2 of them have to be fine tuned to your particular environment. And not all Boats work properly with identically configured Root Prims. You have to fine tune each boat. The key is create a constant stable environment and adjust each boat accordingly to that stable environment.

I got a few more things to say about this, I'll be back later on today to explain further...

Stayed Tuned

As a very young boy in RL growing up 2 streets away from the Detroit River in the State of Michigan, USA. I was always fascinated by boats and ships of all kinds, from the gigantic Lake Freighters, to the motorized fishing and pleasure craft, there was never a shortage of fascinating things to view off the shoreline.

There was one thing that really stood out to me and that was the Hydroplane races each summer up and down the river, from the Gold Cup in Detroit to the races taking place further south and north of the city throughout the season. These were in my mind, "the must see event's" of the entire year. Some family and friends were boat owners, so as I was growing up I quickly fell in love with ability to actually be able to drive some of them. So when I joined SecondLife back in 2005 one of the first thing I did was purchase several boats, and the experience was horrible, an absolute disaster when it came to physic engine performance, not to mention sim border crossings or the dreaded corner sim crossings.

Eventually I gradually started migrating to OpenSim and found my home on 3rdRock Grid, a great grid, some wonderful people and it's STABLE! meaning we rarely have problems. So I started collecting powerboats from all over the hypergrid, mostly OSGrid and found all of these.

I woke up this morning to some surprising news about the wildly popular Free an Open Source graphics software package used by many OpenSim content creators. That's right Blender v. 2.83 is now a Long Term Support release or LTS, this means it will be pretty much feature frozen for a period of 2 years. This is good news for everyone interested in either learning, currently using, or teaching with this fantastic piece of software. You can read the official announcement here.

EchoVoice is another project coming from the IMA ( Infinite Metaverse Alliance ) the same folks that have brought us the SceneGate for OpenSim only viewer. It is based on the Mumble and Murmur, open source Voice communication protocols, a closed testing period is just about ready to begin. I will be keeping you informed of the progress, if all goes well there should be an open Beta happening sometime later this year.

Ya know what this is going to be very kool indeed, I am so sick and tired of making the Vivox Voice Service work in Linux via WINE, ( a Windows compatibly layer that allows Linux users to run native Windows programs in the Linux environment ) and this has been good for me because I can actually get voice to work again and I do not need to boot into the horrid piece of garbage Windows10.

Hopefully all will go as planned and Linux users will once again be able to use in-world Voice again without having to rip your hair out of your head trying to get WINE to work propelry, and BTW EchoVoice will work with Mac & Windows as well.
