Personally I think it is a good thing, I know they are some naysayer's out there that want everything to stay just as they are, but that's just not going to cut it if SL intends to survive. I see no reason why we can not have the same old SL as we know it and new SL area's devoted to gaming right along side of the old.
Here is a recent quote from Rodvick Linden "We're all about gamification here. If it's good enough for Zuckerberg to shell out a billion dollars, it's good enough for us."
And he is absolutely right on the money, it is just a matter of how the Lab goes about implementing it, and not alienating long time customers in the process.
