SecondLife : Windows 8 ~or~ 7 ?

by Avatar JayR Cela

Ok ya can love me or hate me, it does not really make much difference to me, but Windows 8 in my personal opinion will go the same way as Win ME & Vista.

Now don't get me wrong, I can understand M$ logic behind this recent marketing ploy, make everything M$ based look and work the same, but lets get real here, #1 SL will never run on a cell phone #2 maybe on a tablet, ( SomeDay ) The M$ Surface : give me a break / that thing is a disposable piece of trash. The graphics subsystem is a joke, at best.

I have been using Windows since Version 2, and believe me it really was a trip, total garbage. When 3.0 came out it was still a piece of trash, sucked ( Big Time ) 3.1 was a huge improvement and was still able to  run DOS based games in native mode. Windows 95 was hooo-humm, who cares, Win 98 was pretty cool, then low and behold Windows 98SE came out, now that was really bad ass, and I was really happy until I was duped into purchasing a copy of Windows ME, I skipped Win 2000 The last of the really great version's from that era.

Then came XP, at first it really sucked, and looked like something from a Play School Coloring Book, after 3 service pack's it has managed to last 12 years. Then we were presented with Windows Vista.

OK No One Really Wants To Talk About That BOMB.

Windows 7 popped up about 3 years ago 2009 I believe, and after the first service pack it really rocked and still does. Now we have this , who knows what the F&^% it is,  Windows 8 is what Steve Balmer of MS call's it, I call it a piece of garbage, that should be thrown out with the trash.

I have used SL successfully on Win 8 Consumer Preview and the Win 8 Developer release, but only after I managed to dig my way through the labyrinth of odd-ball settings, and figured out how to turn all the unnecessary crap off, like the Aero Glass screen animation's, and those ludicrous tile's.

I'm telling ya right now Windows 8 will be short lived, Windows 9 is already in a pace of rapid development  and will be released within 2 years.

Windows 8 is like an Etch-a-Sketch for Idiot's.

If you are planning on purchasing a new computer this holiday season, and intend to use it for SecondLife or other Virtual Worlds or Games, Stick with Windows 7 or ask for what is referred to as a downgrade, and what ever ya do, make sure that you get a copy of the Original Disk, way to many computer manufactures do not supply you with the RTM Windows disk.

Just my Opinion : But Windows 8 is a total piece of Shit !!!!! and if you are a SL or Virtual World user it should be avoided at all cost's : at least until the first service pack comes out.

Actually I would just wait until Windows 9 is released : my inside ears say late 2014

Virtual Worlds : Media On A Prim : Comes To Viewer 1.x : Thanks To Henry Beauchamp & The Cool Viewer

By Avatar JayR Cela

Ever since Viewer2 was released the major excuse has always been, " Well we could not do all the neat new stuff we want to with the existing V1.x code base "

Time and time again Henri Beauchamp of  " The Cool Viewer " fame, has proven LL to be wrong ! He has managed to back-port most every V3 feature into the V1.x code base as possible.

Currently the MOAP feature is only available in the Experimental release V1.26.5, but should be available in the next stable release-or-too very soon.

Here is an outtake from my recent conversation with him.

"  [2012/11/24 17:37] Henri Beauchamp:
 (Saved Sat Nov 24 09:01:45 2012) http://sldev.free.fr/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&p=4668#p4668
[01:28] JayR Cela: hey there Henri :_)
[01:28] Henri Beauchamp: Hello
[01:32] JayR Cela: hey I see you got media on a prim backported recently / kool
[01:33] Henri Beauchamp: Yes, like I told you a few months ago, it was bound to come sooner and later. Since every other high priority backport was done, I gave it some attention.
[01:35] JayR Cela: yes / I have not been able to pay much attention to my blog or others lately due to health issues / but from what I was reading on your blog that should be in the next stable release ?
[01:37] Henri Beauchamp: Yes, probably next week. The time for me to confirm that everything works fine and that no new bug was introduced by the backport. It's just a matter of "flipping a switch" (a define in the cmake files) to get it compiled in the release version.
[01:40] JayR Cela: I tried the unstable version on OS Grid the other day / :(
[01:42] JayR Cela: that ws on Mint Linux Maya (13) with thier backports from Mint 14
[01:43] JayR Cela: have not had a chance to try it in SL yet / figured I would wait until this coming week and the stable release
[01:46] Henri Beauchamp: v1.26.5 is not "unstable", it is just "experimental" (meaning some experimental code was added, such as mesh deformer, new (and still buggy) HTTP  code,  and now MOAP): as long as you don't enable the experimental code and since the v3.4 renderer has now been debugged, it's just as stable as v1.26.4. It's going to become v1.26.6 (new "stable" branch) pretty soon.
[01:47] JayR Cela: kool / ya mind if i do a blog post about your progress so far ?
[01:48] Henri Beauchamp: Feel free
[01:48] JayR Cela: ok I will / thanks _) "

So keep your eyes peeled here, I will definitely, be giving this viewer a complete review very soon.

SecondLife : Just Released : The Zen Viewer 3.4.2.2

By Avatar JayR Cela

Getting back to this blog's root's, can sometime's be a bit difficult to maintain. I do however enjoy trying out people's contribution's to the SecondLife Open Source Viewer Code. So today I'll take another look at Sl resident Zenna Juran's recent release 3.4.2.2 the first thing I noticed since the last time around is the base Window's download has nearly doubled in size from 28mb to 46.3 I have no idea what's up with that.

I found a number of thing's to be broken, then some sort of re-installation routine.  However I will say this much.

Jenna has made an amazing number of contributions to the SecondLife world.

 Thank's

Second Life: Just another foul-up, I mean day, at the Lab

Mister Acacia is online

Well, I've heard from credible sources that Oskar Linden has been let go. I'm not really sure just what they're smoking up there in the executive playpen, but they have not done themselves any favors. The survival of Second Life really does depend on the residents and the TPV developers, and their relationship with the Lab was solid and mutually beneficial through Oskar.

Did they forget what happened when they let Data Linden go?

Do they still not understand the concepts of "think it through" and "consequencial fall-out"?

Apparently not. Nice going, Rod. Way to support the only reason Linden Lab is still around.

Mister Acacia is offline

Edit: Apparently he really was let go: http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/general-sl-discussion/77915-so-oskar-linden-fired-not-3.html#post1667513

Real Life : My Feeling's of Mortality

By Avatar JayR Cela

Time to die is a somewhat difficult sword to swallow, numerous times here in this blog I have expressed my utter disgust for BDSM and Slavery in SL, and other virtual worlds.

I can not change things that are beyond my control, I can however express my opinion's.

Slavery, in what ever form it is practiced is a sick and twisted mindset, anyone that has the audacity to make light of this is truly a person I will choose to have nothing to do with.

And while I am at it, all of you BDSM nut case's. Go Jump In The Lake !

SecondLife And Slavery

By Avatar JayR Cela

How on Earth can any one condone SLAVERY, well it is alive and well within the Virtual World known as SecondLife.

This brazen act of indifference on the Lab's part, I find reprehensible, as far as I can figure it out. Slavery is an Evil Sickness.

And, I am talking about the Gorean Sims in SL and now in Open Sim based worlds.

This saddens me a great deal.

FireStorm Viewer For Virtual Worlds : Sneak Peak's ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

Oh I wish I could tell you about all of the new built in features to the upcoming FireStorm Virtual World Viewer, believe me, It will be the most well rounded one in the bunch.

The release date ? I can not say, since the Lab decided to implement this ill conceived CHUI interface as a problem solver to the hopelessly and continually broken Group Chat mess. I suppose FS will be having to integrate this piece of shit into their code.

I can tell ya this much though, LL needs to fire everyone involved in the SnowStorm Project, and the BETA Department.

Will I get banned for my out spoken comment's here ?

     Screw em, I don't really give a rat's ass

Virtual Worlds : Is It Time To Move To Open Sim ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

    Is Second Life Dying ?

No not yet, but I feel the writing is on the wall, a number of knee jerk reactions by the Labs upper management seem to indicate so. At least to me.

Several child like, Fisher Price type new games geared towards the sub 12 year old audience recently introduced by LL indicate a loss of focus upon the SL platform. The new CHUI band-aid approach to solving Group Chat lag is a cruel joke at best. SL marketplace is in need of constant maintenance.

Customer service is a joke, people get banned for no apparent reason, and without an explanation of any kind on a daily basis. Project Snowstorm has turned into a I don't know what, the lab may as well discontinue it, as it no longer serves any purpose, and to top it off Linden Lab still refuses to accept the fact that Hyper Grid within the Open Sim platform is very real.

    Is SL Dying ?
