Virtually Old Software : I'm Not Kidding : Plus : A New Nokia Win95 Phone Parody :_)

Hi there

I just been taking a break, rethinking my CinnaMateStudio strategy again. The new Debian 7 is recently out and I am thinking of an alternate yet parallel build to the current Gentoo ~ Sabayon project. Progress is sort of temporarily being held up with configuring, jack - jackd - Qjackctl and JackRack, however I believe I pretty much nailed it down last night, it's possibly a Fire-Wire problem on an old Audigy II-ZS.

Anyway's besides joining Steam and downloading a few really kool Free-To-Play games, I found a great link to and old software and hardware junkies dream come true. Personally I think this is such a wonderful idea, I just feel compelled to get involved somehow, it really looks to be a hit, both academically, and just for the sheer fun of it, can you imagine all the lost classic video games out there just waiting to be easily accessed via a web browser interface. Although similar projects ( Atari Arcade....etc....) have been tried in the past this is unique in that it has various Hardware Emulation, Operating system(s) and Applications all neatly organized and ready to be plugged together. LOL it seems like a dream to good to be true. But I think this is going to be a Bombshell once it matures and gathers more help and volunteers. Actually the organization has been around since the mid 90's, resides  in San Francisco, California, and it's called the Internet Archive  located here
https://archive.org/about/

Definitely worth taking a look see. :_)

And now for this absolutely hysteric pseudo-historical look back at the original Windows Phone, and the first  very popular Nokia basic brick type cell phone of the same era. This you just gotta see in order to believe. It is a U-Tube parody by a group of some truly creative and funny people. Lol / I subscribed to their channel. :_)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=uhF7i1NXyPc

Haaaa !! this brings back some really funny memories, I had the Nokia, that I thought was great and eventually sold to a friend, another friend of mine, an IT guy at Ford had the new Win phone, one day we got into a serious Bar Stool conversation at the local after work watering hole. After an interesting discussion, he begrudgingly admitted the Win phone was a KOOL Toy, but pretty much a confusing worthless business tool, and only OK for phone calls.

Virtual Worlds : FireStorm Viewer Team Announce's 64bit Builds for December 2013 Release

By Avatar JayR Cela

I was reading the FireStorm blog last night and was happy to see that the FS team will be releasing an Open Beta test release before the year is out. Seem's as if The Lab, has been slowing down the show, and FS cant wait. LOL :_)

LL has a bunch of code from all the stuff they been tossing at the wall the past 8, hmm maybe 12 months or so with an insane amount of semi-specific purposed viewers. Personally I feel this was a good idea, same as I feel the server madness was and is as well. If you pay any attention to LL's recent activities, the pace is gradually starting to wind down. At least on their end. But there is still a lot of work that needs to be done, and the Lab has been slow to release stable code to the TPV's. That makes sense to me.

Hence Jessica Lyon, project lead had a great post yesterday announcing a new release for both the Win & Lin platforms sometime late December, both 32 & 64x flavors. And get this, both Open Sim and SL. Holy Cow Batwoman !!!! LOL :_) Thats very KOOL ! However these 64 bit versions may be Alpha's, public or otherwise.

Oh, and yes there is a Mac version planned for early 2014, Yayyy :_)

I do still care about SecondLife. But not a whole hell of a lot lately though. After this recent gimme, gimme, mine, mine, mine attitude represented in the new TOS agreement that, depending upon the last time you logged in, are required to digitally sign before entering. I don't really care any more, and the whole thing is irrelevant to me. I will keep some sort of presence in SL.  Anyway's here a direct link to Jessica's post.

Virtual Worlds : Will LindenLab's Recent TOS Changes Hold Up In Court ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

This one has gotta be throwing everyone for a loop right now.

Let me give you a hypothetical example.

You write a script, in Mono, it performs an equivalent function in the LSL scripting interpreter, which by the way is under some sort of Open Source license, as is Mono. And you decide to bring that script into SL in order to perform a function that you as a content creator feel is necessary in order for your newest and greatest creation to function properly. And for now we are just forgetting the point that LL already owns the Copyrights to the really KOOL Texture's that you created for your project also.

Ok, now who own's this ? You or LL or is it Open Whatever ??? GPL-GPL2... Blaa-Blhaa-Blhaa

You tell me, or shall a court decide ?

SecondLife : Hi There LL / Sorry But I Can No Longer Rent Land From You

By Avatar JayR Cela

I think the title of this post say's enough.

SecondLife : Why Many Content Creators Will No Longer Touch SL With A Ten Foot Pole !

By Avatar JayR Cela

Why should you as a content creator ??? Unless of course you're just not aware of current event's, maybe you do not care, could be that you're just plain dumb.

My renewal for SL is coming up soon in December, at this point in time I doubt if I will renew, there are a number of things I need to do, one of them is disassociate myself from SL as far as possible. Hence this blog may soon cease to exist in it's current form.

I think I need to contact Google Blogger and see about a URL change. SL is still listed in the current one. That need's to change if I am going to continue.

SecondLife : Will You Support Burn 2 / Formerly Known AS Burning Man in SL ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

Now that LL owns everything you create. At least according to recent TOS changes, perhaps a few Class Action Lawsuits might pop up, or a complaint to the FCC.

As far as I'm concerned, in the 8 plus years I have been in SL, I have only really met a few jack-ass's, most everyone is congenial, nice and willing to share. The sad part about everything is that Phillip Rosedale abandoned us.

And now let's talk about Oz Linden, in my opinion he is probably the only sane stabilizing figure head left in SL, well I take that back, He Is The Only Sane Stabilizing person left, and possibly a few of the Server folk's too. But it look's to me as if Rod Humble is dropping the ball, on what should have been a completed pass to move SL forward, not backwards.

So we get to the Burn 2 celebration that starts today in SL, will I attend ? NO !!!!!  Most all of my creative and may I say brilliant artist's friends I have come to know over the years are leaving SL.

I have no reason to attend, for what ? I'm not the captain of the ship, and there's no reason for me to sink along with it.

SecondLife : No Longer Relevant : Or Just A Slow Burn Death Throw ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

It was bound to happen, I'm just surprised it has taken so long.

After all the recent crap taking place in SL, 12 or so different viewers of LL's own making, the constant dumping on TPV's with ton's of irrelevant crap they may or may not need, while the Lab play cutesy games, pretty much just screwing everyone, even they don't know what they are doing. And the Huge SLAP IN THE FACE to Content Creator's. These guy's are writing their own epitaph R.I.P.

Who care's ? SL is a dead issue, in a lot of forward thinking folk's mind's. For that matter so is any other closed grid.

    Time to move on.

SecondLife : How Important Is The New TOS to You ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

If you are not following this issue, I would imagine that you would consider yourself to be an average user, consumer in SecondLife. And that's a very Kool Thing ! :_)

I'm one, although I enjoy building as a hobby, I am certainly not gifted enough artistically in a number of required area's. So for me, I'm pretty much in a wait and see mode. After all in my personal opinion SL has just been the so called Steeping Stone that Open Sim required in order to eventually become the mainstream WWW standard for Virtual World Communications. As a whole it all ready has begun, the proverbial snowball rolling down a snowy slope eventually gains momentum and size.

Several recent items that may have slipped past you are the M.O.S.E .S military grid
http://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2012/11/military-grid-hits-performance-goals/
that should be just enough to wake most people up. Then there is always Kitely's recent success of the Open Virtual World's Market Place.
http://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2013/10/merchant-earns-200-on-kitely/

Also Jessica Lyon's recent transcript graciously provided by Inara Pey of Living In A Modern World. http://insertfunnyname.wordpress.com/2013/10/15/second-life-terms-of-service-a-legal-panel/
is a must read as well

And now, tomorrow Saturday October 19 is what looks to be a critical mass that is sort of just building up steam and ready to go. I urge you to attend this panel lead by Real Life Legal Experts supposedly, what ever / Lol :_) - Just go if you can or offer to help I'm gonna try filming it, that should be interesting.

SecondLife : The New TOS : I Figured Things Were Gonna Get Heated Up !

By Avatar JayR Cela

Well I said something a few weeks back or so, the issue of LL owning everything nonsense seems to be slowly creeping out of the shadowy depths, and rearing it's soon to be uglier than anticipated head.

I have attended a few meetings, talked to a few people.

This Show Ain't Over Yet !

    Check this out : http://insertfunnyname.wordpress.com/2013/10/15/second-life-terms-of-service-a-legal-panel/

Prim Perfect also did a recent Live Broadcast that was partially related to this as well, I have a transcript, mostly it was a lot of speculation, by the panel and attendee's.

However this issue is just the beginning.

CinnaMateStudio Inches Towards Alpha2 : No Firm Release Date Yet

By Avatar JayR Cela

Man am I in over my head, I think the main reason is a general lack of understanding Sabayon Linux, and all of it's eccentric inner workings. Believe me when I tell ya that Ubuntu and Mint linux are a whole lot simpler, but that is probably because I have been using both of them for years.

Anyways, after 2 weeks of working away on CMS_alpha1.8.7, I have finally made it to 1.8.8, and I am crossing my fingers. My main problem seems that I missed a few steps synchronizing the Sabayon and Gentoo repositories. LOL :_) That's a big DUH !! on my part for not doing enough reading of the walkthroughs located on the Sabayon Wiki. I am currently having my doubts if anyone besides myself will be able to maintain a working version of this project, and thats if I can ever get it to the point of being a distributable ISO file.

If there are any Sabayon Guru's out there, HELP !

LOL

Virtual Worlds : The Second Life Viewer and TPV's Share Major Flaw : Linux : CTRL + ALT + F1

By Avatar JayR Cela

Wow, it's been a while since I even thought about this one glaring bug, or flaw, or whatever you wish to call it, and that is the ability to hide all of your H.U.D.'s for a screenshot or film capture while using the SL viewer or all of it's TPV derivatives, and this issue relates to Linux user's only.

It is the CTRL + ALT + F1 keystroke combination, that seems to be inherently embedded into all SL based viewers that I have encountered so far.  In Linux that same keystroke combination is hardwired into the Linux Kernal to bring up TTY1. In the SL viewer it this same keystroke combination that allows the user to hide or unhide the UI, and HUD's.

The funny thing is, I knew about this obvious flaw years ago, LOL is just now I got around to mentioning it.

OK, so here's the deal, in a Windows or Mac system  environment, CTRL + ALT + F1 does not do anything to the native UI, however in SL it hides stuff you don't wanna see on the screen while filming or taking pictures. Grrrr!! in Linux you end up popping back into a console environment.

Damm ! this really blows big time, and I'm still kicking my ass for not mentioning this years ago.

Real Life : The Current State Of Affairs Internal U.S. Politics : We Should Be Ashamed Of Ourselves

By Avatar JayR Cela

It's not often I make any sort of political statement here on this blog, so I will make this one brief. If a person wants to get anywhere in the U.S. political system, then you had better prepare to become a Multi-Millionaire or have been born a spoiled brat with a silver spoon in your mouth. After all by that time you'll have your's, and the hell with everything, or anyone else. Narcissism, sadly is alive an well.

CinnaMateStudio_alpha1.8.7 : Filming and Editing Linux Machinima Studio : Current Applications List

By Avatar JayR Cela

I just am finishing up the Doc's for CMS_A1.8.7 and thought I would post the current link list of Apps, Plugins and such included with the Chromium web browser as a help system. I am also trying to iron out a few kinks with Ardour and Cinelerra. And I have not even gotten around to setting Samba up yet, or figure out how to cram all this stuff into a bootable *.iso file. LOL :_)

If you would like a copy of the HTML bookmark file it can be downloaded on Sourceforge at
https://sourceforge.net/projects/cinnamatestudio/files/

I am using Sabayon Linux for this project, here is a link to their web site.
