OpenSim : 32bit A Dead Issue

By Avatar JayR Cela

Hey unless you are still clinging onto the slowly dieing SecondLife platform, or you have been sleeping in stasis for the past several years, 32bit is dead.

     Wake Up !!!

OpenSim : Alchemy Viewer : I Have A Major Gripe : No OpenSim LogIn's By Default

By Avatar JayR Cela

I have a Major Gripe with the Alchemy Viewer Team, for a group of people that claims to be developing a Viewer geared towards OpenSim, then why the Hell ain't there no OpenSim Log-Ins listed in the default installation, damm they could at least have included OSGrid in the default Grid Manager, how hard would that have been to add ?

All I see is log into SL or SL-Beta Grid / WTF ??????
What's wrong with this picture here ????
They claim to be dedicated to OpenSim, but there is no way to access it it with the standard install        routine, you have to manually add it afterwards, this is inexcusable, and a huge mistake on their          part.

I really like the Alchemy Viewer, it's a lean and a mean fighting machine. I admit is is lacking of some features I currently enjoy with Singularity, and don't even get me started on the CHUI chat, IM Interface they have chosen to use. It is a completely ass backwards confusing mess, a total disaster that came from some not so brilliant minds when Linden Lab decided to farm the project out to a bunch of people I have little respect for. I won't name them here, because they Blew It, and they know it. That's why you never see them around any longer.

As a person that has totally lost faith in Linden Lab, and SecondLife, and the up coming Project Sansar ( Who the Hell want's to wear something the size of a skin diving mask on their head  ) just to socialize and experience a virtual world. I mean really, I'm asking you, have you tried any of these ridiculous gizmo's, I'll admit there is an immediate WOW factor, that will soon wear off as the sweat on your forehead and the discomfort of the headband and weight of the device starts to drive you crazy enough to the point that you eventually go back to using a plain old reliable monitor. But that's besides the point.

The Team Alchemy needs to get a grip on what OpenSim users are all about, and that's not SecondLife or cow-towing to LindenLabs whims any longer.

OpenSim : Singularity Viewer Team Removes v1.8.7.6861 From DownLoads Section : Linux and Windows

By Avatar JayR Cela

As of sometime last night or early this morning Team Singularity has removed the somewhat troublesome v1.8.7.6861 from their downloads section for both Linux and Windows. I guess it was not just me experiencing multiple problems. The new official download is v1.8.7.6866.

I have yet to try this on my main box, KXStudio 14.04, as I had given up on trying to make v1.8.7.6861 work and temporarily switched to FireStorm on that machine. Oddly enough since the Alchemy and Singularity viewer teams claim being sister viewers, sharing much of the same code and developer resources ( people working on both ) I found I was having the same issues with the current version of Alchemy, again only on my KXStudio box, perhaps we will see an update there soon as well.

However I must stress the point that KXStudio is a Hybrid linux distro, not really intended for casual desktop use, and since I use it for my audio mixing work, I am not about to replace it just yet.

I admit that I feel better now knowing that I was not crazy with all the crashing.

Open Sim : Singularity Viewer : Update

By Avatar JayR Cela

Wow, the new version of Singularity has been nothing but crash happy for me the past few days, it is not the viewer it'self, it was my Linux Distro, so I decided to change from KXStudio 14.04 to Mint Linux 17.3 Mate and, I will install the KXStudio stuff I need for audio studio work via a PPA.

So far it is running flawlessly, besides the Grey Avatar upon login and having to re-bake.
I can live with that :_)

OpenSim : Singularity Viewer : New Relaese v1.8.7.6861 : 64bit Only

By Avatar JayR Cela

Well the day many of us have been so anxiously awaiting has finally arrived, after nearly a year and a half, the team of folks so diligently working on the beloved Classic V1 style viewer for OpenSim and (SL) is out and about ready for download. The first thing you will notice is that the 32bit version(s) are no longer under development, this is pure 64bit goodness.  I'm not sure what this means for all the die hard hold out's still clinging to Second Life as a viable platform for the future, as the Havok physics engine currently licensed to LL is 32 bit only. ( at least it was last time I checked ) However since I could give a rats ass about SL these days it has no effect on me :_)

Visibly you will notice virtually no outward changes in appearance, the UI remains untouched, the preferences menu has had several refinements as far as placement of certain options have been changed slightly or moved to another section. If you are running the Linux version you may have to fiddle around with the launcher script. in my case on 2 of my machines running KXStudio 14.04
( a professional grade high end Audio Studio distribution ) I needed to uncomment the,
export LL_BAD_OPENAL_DRIVER=x    : line in the first section

## - Avoids using any FMOD Ex audio driver.
#export LL_BAD_FMODEX_DRIVER=x
## - Avoids using any OpenAL audio driver.
export LL_BAD_OPENAL_DRIVER=x
## - Avoids using any FMOD audio driver.
#export LL_BAD_FMOD_DRIVER=x

However on my ChaletOS 16.04 box ( another Ubuntu-Debian derivative designed for more casual desktop use ) I had no such problem. I'm not going to go into the long list of under the hood changes, because you can easily read about them better on the official Singularity web site.

 http://www.singularityviewer.org/home/release187

and that list is a long one, to say the least. The first thing I noticed is an increase in FPS performance and much more reliable rendering on certain types of complex mesh builds. This seems to have come at a cost though ( at least for me ) with having to rebake my avatars texture just about everytime I log in, and or sit and suffer thru being a cloud quite often for longer than I care to endure, usually it is just a simple matter of changing out the  bald hair piece of my worn outfit, but hey these things are a minor nuisance compared to the amount of changes for the better. In other words I can put up with it, and since I am not really an active Windows ( 10 ) user, ( I only use Windows when I have to or on Patch Tuesday ) I can not really comment. Macs I have limited experience with and do not personally own any Mac Equipment ( I only uses them in the Studio )  However I am sure they work just fine.

In closing, this is one fantastic piece of work, an excellent Viewer for anyone that prefers the V1 to V3 style User Interface. Great work and Salute to Team Singularity / Live Long and Prosper, Team Singularity.

Why Is The Steam Machine So Important ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

The Steam Machine may seem like a dead whale in the water to a lot of folks, but the contributions to the open source and closed source video driver landscape have been phenomenal. We actually have working Intel ( my favorite processor of choice ) graphics / Noveau / Wayland / Vulcan / this is mind boggling the recent progress. Nvidia and AMD have new drivers out. None of this would have happened without the Steam Machine.

In the long run the Steam Machine may crash & burn, however you can not deny the importance of this milestone in history.

And I don't really care for Windows 10 to much, LOL

Died in the wool Debian, Ubuntu person.

Power Boat Racing: OpenSim : 3rdRockGrid

More Boat Racing : Open Sim : 3rdRock Grid : Thank You Mike Hart

By Avatar JayR Cela

Please excuse the mess, we are still trouble shooting a few minor issues, and I am so embarrassed I forgot to mention Avatar Mike Hart for his generous contribution of the Jet Ski rezzers. We did modify them slightly by adding a texture to the back facing side, and re-positioned them so when touched the object is in the water and ready to ride. These are incredibly easy vehicles to use, and a ton of fun. You just have to try it out for yourselves. The Boats and Catamarans were purchased on the Kitely Marketplace, developed by the very talented Kayaker Magic, and so many thanks go out to Avatar Ilan Tochner for making this wonderful market place available to all Open Sim residents.

I would also like to thank Avatars Zinnia Frenzy, Kered Owl, Eldovar Lamilton, Dolfke Barbosa, Kylie Brimmer, and numerous other people that have been putting up with me as I have been building this region. I could not have done this without their help.

If you have never been to 3rdRock Grid, is OK you do not need to be a member to enjoy the fun, and I do still have some complimentary FREE land with 1000 prims available if you would like to establish a home here.
