I have removed the annoying Google Advertising from this blog in protest

By Avatar JayR Cela

Ya know what, anyone that has regularly read this blog has had to put up with those annoying ADSense garbage advertisements. Well guess what since I recently called out COMCAST Cable for being the bastards that they actually are, Google has seen fit to pull my advertising content.

Good, as far as I am concearned they can go jump in the lake.
LOL it's not like I actually made any RL money of of it. I guess they are penalizing me.

OpenSim : HyperGrid : Linux or Windows Client ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

Ya know what, every now and then I get someone ask's me about the Linux vs. Windows deal.

The only advice I can actually give anyone is....

Use what you are familiar with.

Personally I am a Linux person, but that does not mean it is the best solution, in reality the majority of issue's currently being resolved within the OpenSim community will take place under the Windows platform first, and hopefully migrate down to Linux.

The funny thing is most of the servers are running Linux, I have yet to see a Mac server, and that's no surprise, Apple seem's to be obsessed with milking their I-Phone platform until there is nothing left, and has had very little real innovation in the desktop platform for such a long a period of time, they are rapidly becoming irrelevant, and an overpriced joke within some circles.

On the Windows side of thing's Win10 really got off to a shakey start, and the Windows 10 Home version just blows huge chunks of beaver barf, the Pro version is a definite must have, but you will still have to spend a lot of time tweaking it in order to stop all the telementary ( Spying on You ) issue's.

That is one of the reasons I use Linux, and I have to say I am a died in the wool Debian based person, which has filtered down to Ubuntu and Mint.

If you are new to Linux, and just testing the water's, I am going to have to recommend Mint Linux, it is not my personal choice, and I don't use it, however I can honestly say, 9 out of 10 times everything will just work right out of the box. You can find it here.  https://linuxmint.com/

OpenSim : HyperGrid : United States ISP Monopolies

By Avatar JayR Cela

    Ya know what ?

I am sick and tired of the bastard Monopolies we as OpenSim foundling grid providers have to do battle with.

Now that we have a Megla Maniac President Elect set to deregulate everything under the Sun, and let just not take into account the fact the man has not paid personal income tax's in over 18 years.

We are about to get screwed again !

OpenSim : HyperGrid : Dealing with your ( ISP ) Internet Service Provider's Bull Shit !!

By Avatar JayR Cela

Ok let's get one thing straight right off the bat, trying to deal with theses ass holes over the telephone is an exercise in total frustration, that may lead to a heart attack, as you get put on hold, by Nancy employee ID # H8% or Calvin J5_ ,

In this case I am singling out one of the most hated companies in the United States of America.

COMCAST CABLE

They tell me I can not run a server because they use DHCP for adressing, which is bull shit, I have had the same supposedly randomly assigned IP address assigned to my account for the past 10 years, so WTF, why don't they just make it a static address.

This company is unbelievable, not only do they hold a total monopoly in the majority of the US area's they provide service too, the people they employ, ( although well meaning ) don't have a clue as to what the hell is going on, and the usual solution is to put you on hold, and then the automated telephone system conveniently disconnect's.

I just spent 2 hours with half a dozen yo-yo's trying to resolve a billing issue. The semi final result is, tomorrow I will have to get in the car and drive to the regional service center and talk to someone in person, and have some more fun dealing with an under paid subordinate, who is more and likely pissed off because they are only making minimum wage, and could really give a rat's ass about any ones problem, other than their own inability to pay the bills and put food on the table for their own family.

The Bottom Line here is, don't waste your time trying to deal with a problem over the telephone, you need to actually speak to someone face to face, right up front, present your issue, demand to speak with a supervisor, and let that person deal with being put on Telephone Hell Holding Pattern  trying to contact someone that can resolve the issue.

Virtual Reality Headset's : No Account for people with Disabilities

By Avatar JayR Cela

The rather recent rush of enthusiasm to Virtual Reality headset's, seem to have left a large portion of our RL society off into the cold.

You must be in a standing position in order for the majority of them to function properly, what the hell does that mean for people in wheelchairs ?

I am going to state this again VR Headset's are a waste of time, both monetary and research wise. The simple fact that they are a Hodge podge conglomeration of using an existing ( Dumb Ass ) Smart Phone and some ridiculous mask, tethered to a powerful computer is a total no go just waiting to happen.

Save your money and wait for the Augmented Reality Eye Glass's.

I am not a Windows person, but I have to admit, the HaloLens will blow all this current crap VR head set infatuation right into the lake, and that's where it belongs.

Kokua Viewer for OpenSim : Killer Start : Needs a lot of Work

By Avatar JayR Cela

Let me start off with saying that the newest version of the Kokua is hands down the winner at rezzing stuff within 128 meter viewing distance, but that's where it end's. Anything 256 meter or beyond that is Mesh or Sculptie just seems to bunch up into a flat piece of nothing.

It is interesting to note that I do not observe this same behavior with the Singularity or FireStorm viewer's, and that's odd, because FS is V3 based, and Singularity is V1 or a SnowGlobe fork.

I am still waiting to see what Cinders can pull off with the next version of Alchemy, as it's current version seem's to be exhibiting the same problem's as Kokua.
