I Just Installed the latest Dolphin Viewer and Nirans Viewer, I have only done initial set-up so far, so I'm going to demonstrate the default UI, ( hopefully ) with no modifications besides those that I know of on my end.
I have been wanting to explore Open Sim grids with some other viewers, and I will soon, but at this point in time, I feel that it can wait.

SecondLife : Server Team ~vs~ Viewer Team : Lets Hope We Finally Get Some Cohesion Here
By Avatar JayR Cela
If you have ever worked in IT, you may well know a lack of communication between the 2 department's. On one hand your have people working on the Client Side, and other people working on the Server Side.
Sometime's 1+1 does not always = 2
Right now, at least by my observation's and personal opinion's, for the past several years the 2 of them have not always co-existed in a cooperative environment.
In other words the left hand does not always know what the right hand is doing.
Look's as if things may be changing soon.
As far as I can tell, Rodvick Linden was an excellent choice for CEO, and yes if you do some research he has trimmed back some employee's of the Old LL staff and replaced them with former colleagues from Electronic Art's. ( Whats so bad with that ? ) Getting rid of dead weight, on a sinking ship ?
When I read the Forums, and read various blog's devoted to SL, I seem to feel a lot of negative energy, as to moving forward. And I do talk to a number of people. People gotta lighten up in their attitudes, and stop being so critical. If I was able to attend more of the LL meeting's I would, if you can, I would encourage you to do so. Here is the link to the official schedule.

My personal opinion, is to let Andrew and Maestro and Oz Linden just do their thing, that's what they were hired for.

SecondLife : Sim Border Crossings : Has The Problem Finally Been Solved ?
By Avatar JayR Cela
Perhaps it's just me, or I was wondering if other folk's out there have noticed that this week ( since the last server roll-out's ) I can actually cross simm borders with-out everything going haywire !
If so this is a MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT !!!!
Cheer's to Andrew & Maestro Linden, for finally figuring out something that has eluded, all of their predecessors in the Server Department.
Way to go guy's !
And Thank You for all of your dedicated, and hard work figuring out this delicate Load Balancing act, from one Server to the next.

Virtual Worlds : Trying To Find The Right Viewer
By Avatar JayR Cela
This has been driving me absolutely nut's recently ! I have been wanting to explore some of the Alternate Reality Grid's again, and I seem to be torn between 3 Viewers.
Cool VL : http://sldev.free.fr/
FireStorm : http://www.firestormviewer.org/
Singularity : http://www.singularityviewer.org/home
The 3 of them are excellent Viewers for exploring Open Simm Worlds.
I'm going to be trying all of the above within the next few week's.
It should be fun and interesting.

SecondLife : Sometimes The Newest Video Driver May Not Be Your Best Choice
By Avatar JayR Cela
Ok, contrary what you may have been told, having the latest video driver for your computer might not always work that well. Depending on the date of manufacture for your card, or chip-set, if it's an integrated one, you may want to drop back 1 or 2 release's.
This has been causing me numerous problems recently with the current FireStorm Viewer, however when i uninstalled everything properly and did a clean re-install things are working just fine. Go figure that one out / LOL

SecondLife : Massive Confusion As New Features Are Rolled Into The Server And Viewer Code
By Avatar JayR Cela
I have tried my best to keep rather low key about recent and forth-coming changes to SL, but now I'm not so sure. Today I attended The FireStorm Q & A meeting. Sadly this left me with some serious doubt's about the future of this Virtual World platform. According to what I heard, thing's aren't going so well with the Gran-Server-Side-Baking-Project. As a matter of fact, we as user's are about to get screwed, unless the Lab find's and fix's numerous nasty bug's introduced by this major overhaul.
I think the most disturbing thing expressed is that the FireStorm Viewer, may not be able to keep up. Now if you are a FireStorm user, don't get your panties in a bunch yet ! But you may have been noticing lot's of problems logging in, Media_Webkit_Plugin failures, ton's of crash's for no explainable reason.
I do have a Cisco Certified Network Associate Degree, unfortunately that dates back to 2002, so the server side issues I am woefully unqualified to make comment's on, my educated guess's are somebody does not know what the heck they are doing !
And it's not OZ Linden, ( Geeze I'm Still getting flack over my post that he was let go or quit LL ) He is still here and has 2 regular meetings a week, and is probably the best person to go to with major questions.
Please keep in mind he is the Viewer developer at LL, not the Server guy, that would be Andrew & Maestro Linden.
The meetings schedule are posted here.
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:User_Groups
Now look, the worst thing ya can do is jump all over theses folk's back's and complain, that's going to get no one any where. Be patient, there are a number of highly qualified people working on numerous issues, it's just going to take some time.
Attend the meetings, and listen. Ask question's, and please be polite.

Virtual Worlds : So What's Next For This Blog ?
By Avatar JayR Cela
Well for the most part, I'm torn between just leaving SL, and moving over to 3RD Rock Grid.
http://www.3rdrockgrid.com/
However I am having some resistance from my SL partner, Cathy.
My good friend Tommy Parrott, is a simm owner there, and he does have some very kool stuff available.
Will I make the change ?
If LL finally get's their shit together, and lowers tier prices, MABEY !

SecondLife : For Now : Boring !
By Avatar JayR Cela
Not much seems to be happening in SL right now, believe me there is a lot of stuff going on behind the scene's. But a looming question does remain, will the Linden's sabotage themselves, or rise up to the challenge. Personally I think the SL platform has a lot a life left. Hell I been here almost 8 years, the place has changed a bit, but for the most part it is pretty much the same. You are still able to run the client on a modest computer ( not all that expensive )
However Tier Prices Need To Come Down !!!!

SecondLife : So What's Going On Beside's Broken Stuff ?
By Avatar JayR Cela
Well you can expect quite a bit of this during the next 2 or 3 weeks as the Lab roll's out this server side baking thingy. My recommendation is just chill out and let the Lindens do their thing.

SecondLife : OK I'm Back : Get Ready : There's Lots To Say
By Avatar JayR Cela
I know I piss a lot of people off ! Quite frankly I don't really care. SecondLife and other Virtual Worlds are a fascinating subject to explore.
Recently my RL health has been returning ( albeit the broken wrist ) But I would like to continue stirring up the pot, and get people thinking.
Some people do not care for my opinions, that's their problem, not mine.
I'm a big supporter of Oz Linden, although I disagree with him on a regular basis, the guy knows what he is doing. And I consider him to be a close friend.
And I'm going to make a prediction here, Rodvick Linden will soon take the money and run !!!

SecondLife : Niran's Viewer Takes a Hike : Good Riddance !
By Avatar JayR Cela
So Niran has thrown a sissy fit and abandoned the SL platform, big F&^%)(* Deal, He broke all the rules with non-conferment UI designs, managed to piss off just about everyone in the SL dev community, and as far as him moving on into the Open Sim Community, Good Luck at that, his arrogant attitude, will last a week at best !

SecondLife : 2 Viewers Leave the TPV Fold
By Avatar JayR Cela
Well this was bound to happen, and for a number of reasons, depending on who you talk too. The Zen Viewer is no longer available, and Nirans Viewer will soon be closing up shop as well.
This is really to bad, both served the SL community with some really wonderful contribution's, to the SL platform.
Let's wish them both well.
