Good question to ponder, until the next time you go to fill up your gas tank. Hey folk's let's get real here, do you actually believe that you are in control ?
30 years ago I would have said yes, today however it's all about money $$$$ Whom Ever Has The Most Money Win's.
Oil, Oil, Oil, Drill baby Drill, More, More, More !!! The top 1% control everything, private gated, and Alternate Reality's can cloud the mind with something called GREED !!
How much money does it take to feed a hungry child ? For that mater how much $$ does it take to raise a family ???
Both questions are easily answered with, half baked false ( so called NEW'S ) and totally un-credible, outright lies and fabrication by the solely owned and purchased media.
I was just reading an article recently about nuclear power and how it will somehow miraculously solve all of our problems. Yeah tell that to the folk's living near Fukushima Japan.
So anyways the latest news is well we can just bury the stuff deep enough it won't bother anyone ( at least for several thousand years ) and by the whey, while we are at it let's just dig a really big hole somewhere's, preferably near an aquifer or beneath a major lake.
I am not a religious person ( so to speak ) But does not someone up there with all the $$$$$$$$$$$$ not remember ???
God or what ever you choose to call the Great Spirit, gave mankind something no other animal on the face of this planet has. The ability to reason, and make sound judgement.
The only problem that seem's to be getting in the way is GREED
For crying out load how much money can ya have until you are satisfied ???

SecondLife : Real Friends : People Ya Meet : Virtual Word Un-Reality : A False Hope

Ok I'm frothing at the mouth right now, and I am also babbling about, friendships, fragile relationships based upon the fact that there is no actual physical eye to eye and body movement, tell tel sign's of what the other persons may actually be thinking.
No I ask you to think about this for a moment, there is a lot of excitement going on in the GEEK World about / 3D / and this Oculous - 3d stuff. OK let's lookat 3d TV / Total flop !!!!!
Oculous What ever ya call that thing, it's been done before, and I am sure it will be done again, in my opinion Sony is going to bury Oculous well into the pit they so well deserve, along with the seemingly unstoppable FaceBook.
Man I'll tell ya I canceled my RL ~ FB account several years ago. "FB" " Creeps Me Out" I want nothing to do with them, on the other hand I am perfectly comfortable with G+, why is that ?
It's a really strong question, the people I have been starting to meet on G+ as opposed to those I formally had on FB, my RL account ( that I killed years ago ) seem to be different to me as far as intellectually.
I'm not about to apologize to anyone for my thought's or opinions ( until I am force'd into a world of constant surveillance and direct tracking of all my thought's or movements )
I am burned out on Virtual World Relationships, and phony people with screw ball story's about their real lives.
Oculous Rift is ?????????????????????
What U tell me ??
Do you actually want to live in an alternate reality, or would you rather live in a Real Life ?
It's a difficult question, and depends upon who you are.

FireStorm Viewer for Virtual Worlds : FireStorm Viewer : Deep Flaw With Various Linux Distro's
By Avatar JayR Cela
This is gonna be a stickler, unfortunately.
I gotta say this much is not a fault with the FS team, the fault is Linux is a bit more complex than MS-Win - or -OSX :
So if ya got plans on running FS on your platform, ya best run a bunch of trial runs first, my results have been sporadic, erratically sporadic, I cant seem to make no rhyme or reason of the problem, the FS installer sucks, I'll tell ya that right now. Don't even go there, but I have always been able to run it as a stand a-lone in a term.
Now all it does is / flash the screen / and that's on Ubuntu 14.04
Debian 7.4 the same result
I can not log in on either, or for that mater even get the client to run.
Here's the kicker / it runs fine on Gentue.
I don't get it :(

I don't spend a lot of time in SL any longer, or deal with testing various viewers for the platform, but damm, the past few week's I just can not seem to get FS running on various Linux Box's with various Distro's, I am completely stumped here. I guess it's time I start looking through the FS wiki.
I do find it odd though that Singularity and Cool Viewer run just fine, and I will admit to not trying the official LL - SL viewers yet. I would like to be able to find the time to file Jira's but, quite frankly I do not have the spare time available.

ComputerLife : Tablet Phones R Great : Are They Productive ? : OR ??
By Avatar JayR Cela
I just have to say this, I know I am considered to be an old fart, 57 or 58 this year in December / LOL I forget / regardless, just about everyone I know has some sort of Smart Phone or Tablet.
So I been watching my friends use theirs, and wow are they kool, however a large number of folks I know, at least on the Android System, can flick there thumbs and fingers around till they are blue in the face and still can not seem to find things, that are truly important. The I-phone and Pad, defiantly way more impressive, but ??? / You tell me.
It's like an ad-lib comedy show in progress, and my question to them is, WOW !! , can you actually be productive on that thing or is it just a $500 toy ?
I think I would rather spend $500 or more on something actually useful.

ComputerLife : Saving an Old Hard Drive : Re-Mapping Bad Sector's : The Easy Way : VivaRD
By Avatar JayR Cela
As everyone know's, hard disk drives eventually fail. It is usually obvious when your system starts to hang for one reason or another, with no real rhyme or reason, and some odd ball error messages that make absolutely no sense at all start popping up.
Now, I have had good and bad experiences with both Western Digital and Seagate, the two most common currently available mechanical ( spinning disk type ) brands, and in the case of WD, superb warranty support. It makes no difference though and let's face it most HD's if they are defective will fail either immediately or shortly there after, however they do wear out over time, and certain portions of the magnetic substrate ( sectors ) can suffer from deterioration, subsequently the result is the above mentioned symptoms.
In the past it has been difficult for the average person to try and salvage a dying hard disk, please remember depending upon how much deterioration has already taken place will determine wither or not you can save the device.
Let's say for instance you have a 500gb device with aprx.. 980000000 sectors and 39 to 200 of them are bad, your chances of a successful remapping of the bad clusters to good ones are pretty good, this will inform the drive(s) built in firmware ( S.M.A.R.T. Drive ) where these bad sectors are located and to avoid them in the future. ( SMART Drive is typically turned On by'default' or Off in the computers BIOS Settings )
There are programs you can purchase to do this for you automatically, Gibson Research - SpinRite comes to my mind. You can however use a free software tool called VivaRD, and it is available on a product I have mentioned before in my other blog, "The Virtual World Technologist" Ultimate Boot CD. UBCD is an .ISO file that contains numerous tools for computer professionals and novice users alike. It is available here http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
I will warn you though the web page has a lot of click on here advertising crap, so be forewarned ! This link is a safer bet http://ubcd.linuxfreedom.com/
The one you will be looking for is, ViVARD, a very basic low-level program with a minimal DOS style UI, it's not scary at all. You Just Have To Read, Before You Proceed. / LOL :_) I just had to say that :_)
And it is a 2 step process as well as time consuming, find it in the UBCD menu under the UBCD CD Applications- HDD Diagnosis - Menu. Open the program and select the HD you wish to test. and first run a scan, this will take a long time, depending upon your equipment 2 to 4 hours or more, next step is, ( Do Not Exit the Program ), re-run scan with the remap option. Fortunately the second scan already has the info it needs in order to do a scan and remap, in about half the time of the original.
That should get ya back in order, one thing to remember though is, if you data was already really screwed up in the first place, this is no guarantee you will be able to recover it successfully.
VivaRD does seem to have a home page of sorts offering a download ZIP file containing file vivard.exe / I have not tried that / but here is the page I found
http://www.copyrsoft.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=53&lang=en
Anyways, the version included with UBCD worked for me, I like the fact that when using UBCD, by default you have not mounted any partitions or file systems, except those on the actual CD or TD ( thumb drive ).

SecondLife : The TOS : and : Best Di-section I've Read So Far is Nalates Things & Stuff : April 14 2014
By Avatar JayR Cela
If you have any inkling of what a small and currently growing amount of folk's in SL actually know about the TOS changes made last year, and you are a content creator in SL then you really owe it to yourself to read Nalates Things & Stuff blog from yesterday.
She does a wonderful job of breaking in down, and wording various aspect's in such a way as to be easily understandable. Link is here
http://blog.nalates.net/2014/04/14/linden-lab-tos-and-creative-commons/#more-12590
Believe it or not, there are still a number of people, that are completely in the dark on this issue. STILL !!
Read this post, and it should clear up any question you may have.
Then read LL's and Ebbe Linden's comments posted on various other blogs, as to: Well we have no ill intention 's. That's just Bull Crap !
It's like saying to me, well you don't think we ( I ) would actually ever do such a thing, do you? And you answering to them sheepishly, No.
Then in the next breath ( sentence ) their reply to you is. Good just keep thinking that.
Have you ever watched the Television Show ? : The Big Bang Theory ? Where Sheldon is occasionally confronted by his arch nemesis, Will Wheaton ( Wesley Crusher from StarTrek TNG ) / Way to funny / LOL :_) continuing.....
The way the current contract is worded, your screwed !! Plain and simple ! The lawyers in the LL legal division, have admonished themselves ( LL ) from any sort of responsibility whatsoever.
You can do what ever you like, I have no desire or reason to dissuade you from anything, however I do feel a strong enough bond between all of the Graphics, Video, Audio creative type's out there enough to state my opinion's.
Now I'm not a creative person as far as graphic's are concerned. my skills lye strictly within the realm of audio creation, I have worked together with people most of my adult life in the Audio Industry, anytime I hear a phrase such as ( We Have No Intentions Of..... ????. ) ( Your about to get screwed and, You are in trouble !! ) Hell People Wake UP !!!!! IT's In the Freaking Contract you digitally signed !!!!!
And I can tell ya from numerous years in that industry.
If you ever, for what ever reason end up in court over this, the way the TOS is currently worded, your gonna loose, in a heartbeat. I am not a lawyer, nor claim to be. I'm just telling ya from past experience, you will not have a leg to stand on in court, you will also be stuck with all the expenses involved !
In closing, I will just reiterate what I have said before about this BLOG. It is not a New's Blog !! It is an Opinion Blog ! My Opinion's, and perhaps from time to time a guest writer's.

So far I have not met anyone with a negative opinion of the new SL CEO, this is fantastic news to myself and I would imagine a whole lot of folk's.
He is however still gracefully skirting around the TOS changes made in August 2013. That is disappointing me greatly. I mean crap or get off the pot, ya can say all the nice stuff ya like about we ( LL ) have no intention of stealing your creative content ( outright, theft in my personal opinion ).
But until this issue is addressed properly.
Still A No Thank's

SecondLife : New FireStorm Viewer With Tear Off Menu's Coming Soon
By Avatar JayR Cela
I had a hard time finding this place from the official announcement / so here is a direct TP link once you are in-world open your Map. And in the find box type in Phoenix Firestorm and set you location to 147,129,4002
That should get ya there, apparently something is going screwy with the LL SLUR thingy, so until that is fixed your maybe or maybe not gonna get here. If ya need a TP, just IM me, I am very excited about the Tear Off Menu stuff the FS team is about to implement.

LinuxLife : Since Win XP's demise : Whats Next In The Linux Desktop ?
By Avatar JayR Cela
This is a really good question, since Linux is kinda the wild open west sort of an environment, it's really difficult to pin it down. All of the Current Desktop User Interfaces are pretty good. Some more so than others. It boils down too your personal preferences, myself I really enjoy using the MATE Desktop and Cinnamon, that does not mean they are the best.
I think a lot of folks are just plain scared of Linux, and probably for good reason, if ya don't know what your doing, it is incredibly easy to screw things up !
If your Win XP machine is still up and running, you may want to explore the site
http://distrowatch.com/
And once ya get done with doing whatever. Please disconnect your Win XP from the internet.
Good Luck : I rescue old outdated computers regularly, simply by installing a properly suited distribution to the hardware. If you have any questions, or need some assistance, I can be reached at cinnamatestudios@gmail.com
I will do anything I possibly can to help you out.

SecondLife : Ebbie Linden : Are You Listening ? : It's All About The Creatives : Fix The TOS
By Avatar JayR Cela
I seriously doubt if Ebbe reads this blog, a few Lindens and former employee's do, but it makes no difference, I have all but abandoned SL in wake of the TOS, ' stating that ' ( LL owns everything lock stock and barrel what any ( we the creative ) people bring here )
SL is a NICHE, the fact that it still exist's is beyond belief. And I truly feel the only reason it is still here is not because of LL or the well known inconsistent attitudes towards creative's.It is because at, one time, a hell of a lot of people that truly believed in the platform, and through out all the seemingly odd ball changes, quite a few of them ( including myself ) remained.
The Lab originally developed SL as an experiment devoted towards offering the ultimate creative 3D environment that had ever been not only conceived. it was actually implemented in real life as well. ( And it's still here ! )
Time to get back to it's root's is what I say !! ' However ' until the TOS wording proclaiming ( the out-right theft of IP rights by LL is addressed ) we own everything, including your soul, is reworded. / LOL / you folk's are truly unbelievable. / HAAA-Haaa.
We are all fool's until we learn.
I guess. In the mean time.
No thanks

ComputerLife : The Importance of Open Source Video Drivers
By Avatar JayR Cela
This aspect of ComputerLife cannot be ignored, Open Source alternative video drivers, are making leaps and bounds, in some cases surpassing their propriety counterparts.
Gaming on Linux is a major driving force behind this trend. I am a MS Windows User since version 3.0, and although I love Mac's I can not justify the extra price, PC's are it for me, I can work on them, I can repair them, and I can install all sorts of software that in my mind is just as good as the priority stuff.
The biggest bottleneck so far has been VD's ( video drivers )
I can't wait until next year, and purchasing my first tablet computer. And I promise I won't complain when I realize 2 or 3 years down the road it's broken, and I will customarily dispose of it, because there is nothing inside of it you can fix. So I'll buy a new one, and the OS video driver performance will have improved ( by then I'm perdicting 5 fold ) and then I am planning a trip to Mars, and a short hop skip and jump to the Star Trek Federation Headquarters.
LOL :_)
Tri-Corders here I come!

SecondLife : Will GO Go Over ?
By Avatar JayR Cela
Yeah !! Big Time !!
I don't care much for fancy phones or tablets, hell I'm getting old, and the bigger the better as far as I am concerned. I love taking things apart, figuring out stuff, how can I make it better.
But that's old school, and I find myself being left out in the abysmal cold. I recently ran into a n old acquaintance who with a Tablet kindly demonstrated the SL GO platform to me.
WOW ! This is very Kool Stuff.
Damm, now I guess I'll just have to start looking for a tablet computer / LOL

RealLife : ComputerLife : Getting Rid of Wall-Warts : External Power Adapters for Electronic Goods
By Avatar JayR Cela
Years ago anything electronic that you purchased had an internal power supply, you turned it on and off, when it was on it was consuming electricity, when you turned it of it was not, except in limited cases, the unit was still drawing some sort of extremely low amount of current.
Today we are angrily greeted by everything we buy having some sort of AC adapter with all sorts of odd-ball voltage-current outputs, and to top it off none of them are labeled ( readily ) as to which device they belong to. I can't tell ya how many times I have watched hapless musician's plug in the wrong power adapter to a device that although it had the proper connector type, the voltage-current etc.. was incorrect.
Anyways to make a long story short, Wall-Warts ( AC Power Adapters ) draw electricity 24/7, electronic component's with built in power supplies do not.
It's time to outlaw these things.

SecondLife : A History of, from My Point of View : Can Ebbe Linden Save SecondLife ? : Amend The TOS !!
By Avatar JayR Cela
Back into the Way-Back-Machine, I first arrived into the virtual world SecondLife back in September of 2005, and Wow, was it ever Kool ! ( at least back then it was ) I had just started my recovery from a small stroke and severe closed head injury, so I felt the ability to get out beyond my physical confines was truly a tremendous feeling. I started joining different groups and meeting people. I attended numerous LL-SL related meetings in-world. And everything was good, and then suddenly Phillip Linden ( Rosedale ) decided to depart as CEO, and turn over the reigns to M. Linden ( Mark Kingdon ) Boy that was a Fiasco of Major Proportion's, the company seemed to split off into 2 separate entity's, corporate and artistic, with an emphasis on the potential possible windfall of $$$ to be had by the Big Wig Corporate influx of new paying users. SecondLife was no longer a fantasy land. During his tenure M. Linden rushed into place what is now referred to as Viewer 2. UGH!! I think just about all the Old Farts still left here in SL can remember that Black Hole.
Luckily V2 evolved intoV3, as Phillip Linden stepped back into the CEO shoes temporarily and all was well again. Or so we thought. Rod Linden former CEO of Electronic Art's was appointed as the new captain of the ship. It was at this point that SL suddenly started to become dark and cold as numerous LL in-world meetings were shuttered, the JIRA was gutted of proper utilization ( basically communications lines from the community to LL were severed ) as the SL team of developers went upon their merry way with introducing all sort's of neat, nifty new features no one within the community was really asking for ( Does Linden Homes Ring A Bell - Large swathes of land with abandoned and mostly empty 512m parcels with bizarre looking prefab homes ) Path-finding also another flop, managed to sneak in. Mesh, still a disaster in waiting as far as apparel is concerned. I really figured Rod could pull it off, but a certain air of aloofness, seemed to be permeating the LL staff, as numerous Lindens were either let go or simply resigned. I think the final straw ( or last nail in the coffin for Rodvik ) was the C.H.U.I. interface, no one in the development team or the alpha-beta tester's liked it. But it not only was eventually pushed through. ( after holding up other of much more pressing problems that needed solving ). And to much dismay it has turned out to be a complete flop as well. However time moves on, and Rodvick decided it was a good idea to start throwing as much crap against the wall as possible in order to defeat the Evil Third Party Viewer Developers, whom by the way were making the official LL-SL viewer developers look like a bunch of totally out of touch with reality people. ( Subsequently Viewer Name Tags were banned, too many people were using TPV's and making the Lab look bad ) Burning Man was no longer going to be supported by LL. neither was the yearly SL Birthday bash, Educational Institute subsidies were discontinued. Desura the indie game distro entity was gobbled up ( and soon to be spit back out, maybe ) some odd ball indie games were purchased and shortly thereafter shelved. The TOS was amended effectively screwing all of the independent content-creators of retaining their individual IP right's. Major private Sim's started closing, Mainland parcels were being abandoned at a rapid pace as well.
That's all I can remember right about now, the Big Konk on the head I got back in 2005 still affect's my abilities to think clearly sometimes.
So now we have Ebbe Linden, and from what I have been reading so far, this guy may be just the right fit into SL's odd-ball niche culture. By that I mean, as I see it SL is an artistic community involved within the RL worlds largest Virtual Reality sandbox. Ebbe seems to be a real person, he has been seen attending numerous SL event's, meeting together with prominent SL bloggers, and doing just about everything right that anyone could expect from someone with such an important position. I wish him all the best, I think he can pull it off.
I would like to offer a few suggestion's.
#1 There is a crap load of abandoned Main Land in SL, how about restarting the SL Moles team of landscape developers.
#2 Bring back as many LL employee in-world meetings as possible.
#3 Bring back the Educational Institute discount's ( In fact, how about donating entire parcels (sims) free of charge )
#4 Return Homestead limited use parcels (sims)
#5 Close Linden Homes ( no one uses them anyways )
#6 Embrace Hyper Grid and start contributing to the project again ( Hell Linden Lab & IBM created it )
#7 Get off your False Soap Box proclaiming individual IP rights will be protected in SL, while the company two-facedly and blatantly steals ours.
I am all about the TOS thing right now, I don't trust LL, if you do, that's your right to do so.
Myself I won't trust them as far as I can spit into a swift wind anymore. An example, I am currently working on a truly massive database of GPL sound effect's, at this point in time I have no intentions of devoting any time, energy, or support to the SL platform.

FireStorm Viewer : SecondLife : Tear Off Windows : Very Kool :_)
By Avatar JayR Cela
Within the past few days Jessica Lyon of the FS virtual world viewer team announced that in fact tear off menu's are finally going to become a reality. This is fantastic news, now if someone would please figure out how to switch hiding my hud's in a Linux environment are not the CTRL+ALT+F1 key combo to something more sensible, ( I know someone has figured it out, UKanDO or CtrlAltStudio, one of them has it, don't remember which one though. )
I applaud the tear of menu feature finally being explored again, it was originally intended for the SnowGlobe viewer, and for one reason or another never saw the light of day until now.
The next very kool step is to migrate CTRL+ALT+F1 to another key stroke combination officially to all Viewers, then I will be very happy.

CinnaMateStudio : Current Outlook : Open Source FX Library Download
By Avatar JayR Cela
As I sit here, trying to sort things out, and my recent decision to migrate back to the Debian platform continues.
I have decided to devote the next month or two, towards my ( FX ) project, a freely available library of various sound effects, categorized in the .wav / .ogg / .mp3 formats.
I am burning out, and sadly I am unable to remain awake 24 hours a day 7 days a week, haa-haa. I'm considering a PHYSC-Brain transfer into a Virtual World Intelligence Platform Environment. / LOL :_)
I wish I could, but seriously, I am toast right now, so it's time to take a break.
My current plans are to finish the sound effects library, and release that into the public domain first, and then get back to whatever the heck I was doing before.

CinnaMateStudio : I am Migrating Back To Debian
By Avatar JayR Cela
This decision is somewhat tongue in cheek, for the time being. ( I know, I tend to rant and rave from time to time ) However in my time spent, and weighing all of the potential advancement's being made within the Linux Gaming World. I have decided to run several experiments with Debian, and LinuxMint (once v.17 is available)
Sabayon Linux has been put temporarily on the back burner.
