If you were thinking about using one of the 32/64 Viewers intended for use in both OpenSim and SecondLife, I have some disheartening news for you, "DON'T !" That is unless you want to cause yourself a lot of unnecessary grief. I have been conducting quite a few of my own experiments lately trying to do just that, and it is just not worth the headaches, for that matter trying to use both a 64bit and 32bit viewer of the same design, The FireStorm, Kokua, and Singularity viewers for instance are available in both 32/64, and my findings so far in a MS Windows environment, ( at least in my case ) have caused nothing but headaches.
Since FireStorm seems to be the most popular Virtual-World-Viewer of choice I will use it as an example. I had originally thought I could use FS32 in SL and FS64 strictly for OpenSim, that did not work out very well, especially when it came to using SLUR's within SL, clicking on a SLUR via a web page normally just opens your viewer, however what happens when you have multiple VWV's installed for both SL and OS, I'll tell ya what happens, the Windows OS seems to get confused and does not know what viewer to use, if any !
: Example : Firestorm32 for SL ~ FS64 for Kitely and any other Hypergrid enabled OpenSim based world. In my case clicking on a SLUR from a web page is supposed to open your viewer in order that you can log in and visit the location, more than likely the 64bit version will be opened instead of the 32bit one you have set up for SecondLife, uninstall the 64bit version and guess what ? Clicking on a SLUR now will no longer function at all. Next lets really have some fun and install Kokua and Singularity with the same conditions 32bit versions for SecondLife 64bit for OS. Whooo-hoooo, the monstrosity better known as the "Windows Registry" by this point is so screwed up, anything can happen. It will take some legwork on your part in order to re-set the SLUR association bit flag back to the 32bit version, and hopefully you will have installed it in the default C:\Program Files (x86) directory, if not then you will have another set of issues to deal with.
I am not saying these issue's are unsolvable, however a large part of the problem is not the program's ( Virtual World Viewer's ) themselves or the people designing them, the problem is MicroSoft and their lack of forethought as to what a gigantic nightmare the Windows Registry would eventually amount too way back in 1998 when it was first introduced.
This problem does not exist on a Linux Box, there are other things to deal with there. The Linux world is completely abandoning 32bit and has been gradually removing support for 32bit libs on 64bit systems, to the point right now at least with any recent Ubuntu ( post version 12.10 ) based distribution will simply refuse ( in most cases ) to run 32bit programs any longer. Macintosh has been pure 64bit for some time now so no problem there.
There are a number of other issues, unfortunately, still to be dealt with, such as what about your inventory and chat logs, from various grids. Patience is the key here, eventually all this stuff will be worked out. For now you may as well be happy and feeling a bit smug that you are on the cusp of a new High Technology Frontier.

I only met Joe a few times, he was a bit controversial.
However I will always remember him as a truly wonderful person.

Virtual Worlds : Can They Save Humanity ?
By Avatar JayR Cela
You can call me crazy or mad, does not matter.
I am convinced that a Virtual Environment is the best bet for a solution to massive worldwide conflict's.
Here is my logic, number one you can not physically harm someone, this hopefully will allow you to talk and possibly resolve your differences before a conflict occurs. Number 2 co-operating with people will more than likely result in a better return on your investment, economically.
Unfortunately we have an Industrial War Machine completely out of control.

Brain-Washing The General Population With Acceptable Violence
By Avatar JayR Cela
I guess I'm not going to stop expressing my opinions, violence is an inherent necessity of survival, however it has become so distorted in the form of the On-Line Gaming Genre World, that it has completely premeditated our society to the point of no return, where people seem to feel ( especially our children ) that violence is an acceptable means of resolving problems.
This is such a horrible thing to even comprehend, we are being manipulated by greedy power hungry broker's in our real lives every day, and the sad part is that the video game industry seem's to be HELL Bent on reducing our younger generation to accept violence and killing as an acceptable means to and end.

Building A Virtual United World : Achieving Peace On Earth : Is It Possible ?
By Avatar JayR Cela
It is very apparent to myself and a number of other folk's that violence seem's to just be an overwhelming major part of the video gaming world.
Personally I am really sick and tired of it !!!!!
It is time to stop the self centered megalomaniacs, with way to much money influencing our thinking process's.
Is it possible to build a Virtual World United Nation's ? I think it is a doable goal. Once you eliminate the obvious barriers such as racial hatred, gender discrimination and religion.
Religion is the number one thing that needs to be eliminated.
I'm just getting started.

Virtual Worlds : Can We Actually Solve Our Real Life Problems ?
By Avatar JayR Cela
This is a very hypothetical question.
Can we actually solve our real life problems by transferring a virtual presence into a Virtual World Environment for a purpose of......
Blowing up things, KILLING SomeThing or SomeOne ?

SecondLife : How Important is the Havok Physic's Engine ?
By Avatar JayR Cela
Ok this post is going to come off as very controversial, and I intend it to be so for a reason, The Havok Graphic's, Physic's Engine, considered to be the De-Facto 32Bit implementation within the Gaming Industry, is just that ! It's still 32Bit.
Yep believe it or not, that's the deal, so do ya think LL should drop it in favor of some newer technology ?
Well if your an athletic type in SL or perhaps enjoy Motor Sport's, Airplanes, Boating,.....
then yes it is extremely important. If your just hanging around chatting with friends, then no.
Just wondering what ya might think.

Virtual Worlds : And : Real World Peace Prospect's
By Avatar JayR Cela
There are a number of articles and a couple of academic studies in the past 8 years or so I have read through, most everything I have examined seem's to come to several of the same conclusion's. Virtual Reality World's are here to stay, and virtual reality relationships can often lead to a much better understanding of the real life human interaction's that somehow, and sometimes seem to get in the way of a rational thinking process.
Racial hatred, gender discrimination, so on and so on.
Virtual Reality Worlds, allow a communication channel, that is unlike anything we have ever seen in the history of mankind. You can not discount the importance that this medium will play out in the future.
Just another crazy thing I was thinking about.

Virtual Worlds : What Makes a Healthy Long Lasting Relationship With A Virtual Partner ?
By Avatar JayR Cela
Let me say this right off the bat, you need to be honest with your prospective. Lying to someone about who you are is a horrible way to start any sort of relationship. It is sometimes mind boggling to me that Cathy and I in SL have remained together for over 8 years. Have we had our fight's and break-up's ? Yeah lot's of them, a few of them rather ugly, but we did manage to pull through and continue our friendship, due to what I believe is a mutual respect for one in other.
Just my thought's
