Here I go again : to all the folks out there wasting their money on things like Bright Canopy the streaming service for virtual worlds, wake up please. The extra $15 or so a month you are spending can easily be saved, and over the course of a year you will have $180 to spend on a new mini computer by HP, Dell, Acer, evan Intel and many others are readily available, and the prices continue to decrease every month. For those concerned about the integrated graphics on these low priced box's, both Intel and AMD have made fantastic advances in recent months with the graphics capabilities, and they come with Windows 10
In the mean time your old computer can easily be retro-fitted with Linux, Ubuntu or one of its derivatives are your safest bet. UbuntuStudio is a fantastic choice, it has everything you can possibly want or need to accomplish most anything conceivable within OpenSim / HyperGrid.

OpenSim : Chat Logs : Conflicting Standards or Lack There Of
By Avatar JayR Cela
Look I don't go spouting off with some half baked crank bull-crap nonsense gossip and such like a number of OS/HG folk's. I only speak when I feel something is important.
Currently there seems to be no set standard for storing and being able to read your chat log's from one TPV Viewer to another, they all seem to store the chat log file into different locations using incompatible formats.
In other words, my Singularity chat log file's cannot be read by FireStorm or other viewers, and the same holds true in reverse. FireStorm cannot read Singularity chat log files, nor Kokua, or Alchemy or CoolVL.
So this is an issue that needs to be addressed.
I as a land manager depend upon the ability to be able to accurately read my past conversations with various people, often requiring me to log in in with a different viewer, simply because the person I am dealing with does not use the same one that I use, and they require assistance that mandates I be using the same viewer as they are in order to be able to explain things to them correctly.
I am very excited about the Alchemy Viewer, currently it's kinda a work in progress, however as much as I dislike the V3 platform, I would encourage everyone within the OpenSim community to get involved with both the Alchemy and Singularity viewer team's.

HyperGrid : OpenSim : An OpenSim-centric Viewer : Finally ! : The Alchemy Viewer
By Avatar JayR Cela
I have been calling out for this for a while now, and finally someone is actually doing it. I'm talking about a a Third Party Viewer that is being designed with OpenSim in mind first and foremost, and not SecondLife. I am taking a quote from their web page / I hope Cinders does not mind :_)
( " With this release of Alchemy, we bring you full OpenSimulator support written from the ground up and are proud to say we will support OpenSim as a first class platform on par with our Second Life support. Much of the past month has been spent in communication with the OpenSimulator team not only to bring our viewer up to speed and inline with their platform, but to help squash compatibility bugs with their protocol, and it doesn't stop there. Our goal is to be the forerunner for new features and protocol helping OpenSim go places it hasn't be able to go before having been burdened by rigid viewer design and bound to the Second Life protocol by the viewer. We are committed to breaking new ground with OpenSim. That said, this is the first release of a brand new OpenSim implementation, so there's bound to be bugs. Remember what I said about about bug reports? Send them in! We love it." )
Amen !! to that, it's an extremely bold statement of commitment to the OpenSim community, and I will urge you to please take the time to check it out and file bug report's and get involved if you can.
A new branch of the open source SL viewer being designed from the ground up for OpenSim is something I have been calling for for a while now. My experiences with it so far have been mixed, admittedly I confess to only having a total 15 or 20 minutes logged so I can not really express any sort of feelings one way or another yet. There is one feature I think every one has been waiting for since forever ( lol ) the ability to adjust you VRam beyond the 512mb limit, Yay! :_)))

HyperGrid ~ OpenSim : Offering Friendship, and common sense
By Avatar JayR Cela
I'm going to make this short and brief as possible....
Hypergrid jumping is a total trip, and meeting all sorts of wonderful, creative individual pioneers in this ever expanding MultiVerse is sometimes beyond my comprehension.
However, when a person just offers me friendship....
without a proper introduction.....
or at least taking the time to say hello first....
I find that to be quite rude....
I'm sorry if I have offended anyone.......
But if you do not have the common courtesy, to introduce yourself, or perchance we both happen to be attending a Virtual World meeting of some sort's.
Then more and likely i will ignore the offer.
JayR Cela
P.S. / by the way I just added a link to the Alchemy viewer the other day / its pretty kool / but it has the C.H.U.I Chat / IM interface :(

OpenSim : Why You Don't want to use FireStorm
By Avatar JayR Cela
FireStorm has grown to be the most bloated piece of work , I have ever seen, way to much SL specific trash no one in Open Sim needs.
Do your self a favor and use the Singularity Viewer, it's mile's ahead faster in regards to FPS, easy to navigate, and all around it just proves what an utter failure the entire, supposed upgrade of V2 from Mark Kingdom, that this idiot gave us, was such a mind boggling mishap.

OpenSim / Poison Viewers
By Avatar JayR Cela
Ok this is just my opinion.
The Current viewers available for Open Sim contain a lot of extra crap specifically for SecondLife.
Give me a break, SL is DEAD !!!!
Go nowhere platform.
I have all this crud in the new FireStorm Viewer I don't need, just because it is required for SL, I am sick and tired of this. :(

Virtual Worlds : Windows 10 ~or~ Linux ?
By Avatar JayR Cela
OK all you gear heads out there, I have been running Windows 10 Insider since day 1.
It is a n awesome OS, once you turn off all the privacy setting crap it really rocks.
However if you don't want all this junk shoveled down your throat, just install LINUX

New Stream Service For SecondLife / Who Give's a Crap ?
OK I am in a pessimistic mood today,
In regards to the new fangled speed up your SL experience ploy, let me ask you this question ?
You spend an extra 10$ or so a month, to have a faster experience in the dying Virtual World SecondLife, because your computer is to old, however if you save the extra 10$ or so a month over the course of a year, more and likely you can pick up one of the numerous MINI Computers from HP, IBM, Asus.......
For about 150$ to 200$ U.S.
Evan with the Intel graphics built in or the AMD APU's / these things rock Bigg Time.
So this pay me extra $$$ to get a faster virtual world experience is a complete waste of your time and money.
Hold on a sec I gonna put on my Tin Foil Hat. Give me a break / this is just a laughable as SLGO

Virtual Worlds and Windows 10 / meh :(
By Avatar JayR Cela
Look I am not a Windows person / I have been using it since version 3.0 / it was crap then / is still crap now.
However it currently is the most prominent Operating System for personal computers.
I just did an (supposed) upgrade from a dual boot Win 7pro and KXStudio 14.04 Linux.
For the most part it was rather smooth, took about 2 hours to complete, tripped out my video-driver, so that needed to be completely wiped, and for me this sort of thing is no big deal, but the average user, I don't know...
I got to hand it to them folks over there in Redmond , they are definitely on the right track.
Should you do the UpGrade ??
Personally I would hold off, until the free-bee upgrade offer is just about to expire.
It's not ready for Prime Time !

Virtual Worlds and Hardware / Video Card Thermal Overload / A Very Real Danger !!
By Avatar JayR Cela
OK lets get something straight right off the bat, I don't have as much time to devote to this blog as I once did, hopefully that will be changing soon.
However I just have to issue this warning to people that are running top end high power Video Cards, the ones that require extra power connectors and Radiators, Dual Fans, and perhaps Liquid Cooling. These Devices can OVERHEAT !!!!! Big TIME !!!!!!!
I recently had a Nvidia GTX560 based device just out of warrenty / 3 years / the cheap ass dual fans decided to lock up / due to lack of proper lubrication in the crappy sleeve bearing design used.
Its a dam good thing I was sitting at the computer and realized something was getting flaky, so I open a component monitoring app that allows you to monitor temperatures, as I watch my GPU temp climb from a very hot 67degree Celsius to 75 to 80 to 85 to 90 to 98 degree and I just yanked the plug, which is not a good idea, I opened the case and placed my hand on the card it was so hot it actually burnt my fingers causing mild blisters.
This is inexcusable, shoddy design, and I am not about to mention the Brand Name, because all the Video Card Manufacturer's of Consumer Grade Goods are guilty of this, there needs to be a thermal overload shutdown built into these so called high end monster cards.
It's damn lucky on my part I just so happened to be sitting at the computer and noticed the problem before the thing actually caught fire.
All I am trying to say here is if you are running Consumer Grade High End Video / the fans these manufactures are using are cheap ass garbage, so expect them to fail, more than likely just after the warranty runs out. If you are pushing your video card to the max in a virtual world you need to be aware of this.
Thankfully I replaced the burned up GTX560 with a GT730 - very similar specifications / manufacturer date July 2015 on the 14nm scale process that consumes nowhere near the 165 watt max required for the GTX560 and sips power at a meager 35 watts max / and I tell ya what / the specs are so similar between the two of them, for all practical purposes I can not tell the difference.
