Virtual World Games : Browser Based Is The Future : Drakensang On-Line

By Avatar JayR Cela

A few years ago I would have said you were nut's if you thought that the world of video gaming would be turning toward's Web Browser Based Games ! Wow how things have changed !

Think about it, no download required, no massive amount of computer hardware, all you need is an internet connection, a web browser, a mouse or trackball and keyboard of sort's. This is the case with a recent entry into the Mystic Hack and Slash genre, quite similar to Blizzard Entertainment's infamous Diablo, series, a new game entitled Drakensang Online has come onto the scene.

You have absolutely got to see this in order to believe it. If you liked the original Diablo or similar games in the past, you will feel right at home here. The coolest part is that there is nothing to download ! Zero-Zip-Nada !!! / It run's right from your browser, Chrome, FireFox, IE, Opera......... It makes no difference. The graphic's are wonderful, the game play is highly addictive, the story line is, ahhhh, mediocre. But who cares this game kicks ass, and you don't have to download a 3Gig client in order to play it !

Here are some screen shots of the central starting point, or initial base camp. It is here that you will be able to acquire various quest's and work with your inventory.

As you can easily see this is not a Virtual World environment like SecondLife or OpenSim, it is a Video Adventure Game ! And Man ! I got to tell ya, it is The Bomb !! Big Time !! I can't stop playing this damm thing ! But then again I was completely hooked on Diablo for several years, and that was ( Step Into The Way-Back Machine ) back in the Windows 95 day's of yesteryear. Here are a few screen shot's from the first level.

Ok I know that I am straying off my usual path on this Blog, but I don't care !
This is a Killer example of what can be accomplished in a Browser based format.
No longer chained to a 3Gig client download, I can play this game virtually anywhere there is a web browser available, this is just the first step.

     And get this ?

The entire thing was programmed in JAVA !!!!!

Man this has just single handily turned the entire on-line gaming world community upside down.

Ya gotta try it !   http://agathon.drakensang.com

SecondLife : Nirans Viewer Keeps Evolving

By Avatar JayR Cela

Well this is one hard SL based viewer to keep up with, being somewhat of a perfectionist NiranV continues to massage the preferences and in world usage menus, with everything being geared towards in world photography and machinima users.

The newest version 1.39 has seen some major improvement's in the later area. If you have not had a chance to try it out yet, I would highly recommend you do so, and of course join the in-world Niran Viewer group as well.  http://niranv-sl.blogspot.com/

SecondLife : The Exodus Viewer Goes To Nightly Builds : Seeks Assistance

By Avatar JayR Cela

Well here is some exciting news for all of the Exodus viewer fans out there, after what seems to have been forever since the last update to an already great combat sim based virtual world client, the team has decided to kick things up a notch or two and put development into high gear, via a new nightly build policy.

Here's the kicker though, unlike some other nightly build viewer project's, the Exodus team is actively seeking users to participate along with the dev's.

So if you are an avid fan, and would like to see a really good SL viewer become a truly great one, why not put your two cent's worth in and see about helping out.  http://exodusviewer.com/

SecondLife has been a huge comfort to me since 2005, I have meet so many wonderful people.

I never really figured out why I started this blog in the first place, boredom I suppose.

Cherish your family, friends and all life.

Try and stay focused on all of the things that are positive.

Virtual Worlds : Enter At Your Own Risk ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

Hello again, just your normal morning loon, saying my mindless ramblings.

I have something I feel is important to say.

Virtual worlds are a very important part of modern life.

As in all of your associations, occasionally you will meet some one that is not a very nice person.

If that happen's to you

Just move on

Virtual Worlds : The Devil : The Idiot : And The Difference

By Avatar JayR Cela

Ok this post is really off the wall.

How do virtual world's allow people to interact?

For one thing, you can meet people in other place's you may not  geographically be able too.

Which is very cool.

There are many times in your Real Life, that you meet someone on the internet, and you would like to spend some time together with them, and you become friend's.

You say hello, chat a bit, and establish a relationship.

Eventually you realize you are both human beings, and there is not many differences, your skin may be of a different color, but you are both God's Children.

Less War !!!!

More Friend's !!!!

Hopefully!

Virtual Reality will eventually solve a number of the world's problems.

Think About It

If you believe in religion, fine, personally I do not, however we all have to deal with the fact of Good & Evil

There is a Devil out there, there is an Idiot, and then there is You.

Carry yourself forward, and accept people as they are.

SecondLife : Oz Linden and The Mesh Debate : Why Are People Beating Up On This Guy : He Has A Job To Do !

By Avatar JayR Cela

I don't really attempt to understand all of the underlying issue's going on about the Mesh quagmire currently going on in the various blog-o-spheres.

For one thing Quarl Linden no longer works for LL, Oz does !

They are both wonderful people, and this stuff is complicated.

Trying to manage a complex programming protect take's an enormous amount of dedication, so just let the man do his job.

Personally I could care less about Mesh clothing, it's not evan worth debating, I'm just happy to feel that I have a body that in my mind actually works.

This platform SecondLife has to progress in incremental stages.

Reinventing the wheel, has not proven to work out very well in mankind's history.

How many times do you have to bang your head on the wall to realize it hurt's ?

Virtual Worlds : Accept People For Themselves

By Avatar JayR Cela

Ever since I was a young boy, I soon realized something was wrong. I was not a girl.

Is there something not right with that ?

We Are All Of God's Children

It Does Not Matter, If You Are A human Being.

Male or Female, We all have hopes and desires, some of them are not attainable in RL

What really matters is just getting in touch with your inner self.

    If you are a male,or a female.

    We are all people.

I will continue to disrupt the Neo-Con Male Right Wing World..

And since I am not inclined to being violent.

    I will just be feminine.

Why Virtual Worlds Are So Important ? The Disabled !

By Avatar JayR Cela

The single biggest reason I can think of, is people that in RL that are physically handicapped.

Hey ! We are people too !

It is nice to be able to imagine, and just delve into an alternate reality.

Yes we know it is not real, but when you are sometimes not even able to take care of your normal everyday part of life without help from a caregiver, it can get a bit depressing.

And SecondLife make's it a little bit easier to deal with.

Thank You Phillip

Virtual Worlds And Gender Blending

By Avatar JayR Cela

Look, the first thing you need to do is be honest with your virtual world partner.

If you a a hot babe in a virtual world. Go for it !

    Be yourself.

    Some people are furry's.

The thing that is most important is to be honest with your partner.

    And Love Them.

Linden Lab Really Screwed Up With Allowing ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

Not the kind of flattery you want

Mister Acacia is online

Having recovered from my huge rage vent against LL (they're still a bunch of asses, IMHO), it's time to write something constructive.

I put in a jira for a new feature, the ability to add an underscore or hyphen to a username when signing up. I see a lot of usernames that kind of make sense, and some that don't. Some have a firstname-lastname construct, but knowing whether it's a double first name isn't easy. Is Terry Lynne a first name or a first and last name?

Anyway, so I proposed the feature and then Whirly noted that LL needs to be careful about allowing imposter accounts. And I agree. I don't want someone making a Mister_Acacia and then doing something to harm my reputation as an old curmudgeon.

So I sent a support request. Kind of silly, because I knew that the canned reply would be unhelpful. And it was. I asked if there was a mechanism in place that prevented me from creating a username that duplicated a legacy username without the period; in other words, is there something that prevents me from creating misteracacia resident? Or jayrcela resident?

The answer was:
Thank you for contacting Second Life Support about your issues with creating a new account. On the names if that has already been taken you could add a number to it so that you can have it as close to that name as possible but other wise you will want to choose something else.
So, as I suspected, the agent didn't answer the question I asked. So I put it to them again:
You are correct on the system when choosing a name if it says that the name is taken or that it is not allowed it is best to choose another. I could not say if that name has been chosen or if its not a good name. That is up to that part of the system to choose.
OK, so as I also suspected, the agent doesn't have the answer for me. I rather expected that from the start. So I asked to have the case escalated so I could get an authoritative answer.
It is not necessary to escalate this because when the system says that name is taken it is not available for anyone other than the person who has it or had it So it cannot be duplicated in this system that is why you are not able to get that name.
The agent refused to escalate the case. Does she have the authority to do that? I don't know.

But it tells me that we need to be vigilant about protecting our own identities. Every now and then, you should do a search for a username that is identical (without the space or dot) or similar enough that you believe it could be mistaken as your alt. Then raise the issue with LL. Do what is necessary to force LL to take action. Your reputation is at stake.

How Many SecondLife Viewers Do You Use ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

Wow, All of these Open Source Viewers made for SecondLife can make your head spin sometimes, and if you are on a Windows box, completely and majorly screw with your registry.

I am installing and un-installing various viewers every day, this tends to really clog up my system, sometimes to the point I just want to scream, pull all my hair out and just say the hell with it.

But there are a few tool's that will help save you from complete and total lapse into madness.

Number 1 you really should have an un-installer, this is a good one.

http://www.iobit.com/advanceduninstaller.html

Then you are gonna need a disk derangement program
Yah I know Windows NTFS sucks, it is Fat32 on steroids, and it gets hopelessly trashed after you install and un-install numerous programs. No need to worry though. Ultra Defrag will help keep your Win-Blows System running.

In short, I just have this to say.

I am insane, and I use Linux, most of the time

My Friend Mister Acacia Opinions Are His Own

By Avatar JayR Cela

Wow !, I got no idea where that rant came from, but he must have good reason for posting it.

Oh Well

JayR

Linden Lab: More concerned about a few seconds than paying customers

Mister Acacia is online

Linden  Lab is truly pissing me off. I follow many of the issues that are in their jira because they are important to me and my fellow paying customers. Recently, some employee at LL, Mercille Linden, has been closing dozens of issues with "Won't finish" and without comment as to why.

So I complained because to me it seems a really shitty customer interface to just close something without saying anything.

Of course, the first level support gave me the expected canned response because they don't know how to respond. So I had it escalated. It went to Derrick Linden.

He responded with a real answer, but it wasn't what I was expected. He wanted examples. So I gave him some. And he said that there were linked issues that explained.

Well, I gave him a couple dozen more examples that to me had vague responses and no clear reasoning why the issue was closed as "Won't Finish".

His final response, before closing the support case in a manner that didn't allow me to respond was:

When I said I would look into the individual JIRAs you had questions on, I meant that I would try to help you on the individual JIRAs you actually had questions on, and not randomly searched JIRAs you could find.
While a large majority oh the JIRA topics I took a look at do indeed give information as to why they were closed, some do only reference other topics with a link to them. This is likely in an effort to save time and to not have to say the same thing twice. Personally, I prefer the devs spending their time to correct the issues at hand rather than managing JIRAs so in-depth.
I apologize that you are dissatisfied with the way our JIRA system works, but unfortunately it is run this way for a reason.

So that helps me understand exactly what LL thinks of its paying customers. His apology is empty because in reality he doesn't give a shit that I'm dissatisfied. He and his colleagues are more interested in saving a few seconds' time and a few bytes in the issue by not explaining what they're doing than to ensure that their customer base is happy.

Compounded with the many other disrespectful things LL have done (like putting that bitch Alexa in a customer-facing position) I fully understand now just what LL thinks of it's customer base.

Linden Lab, fuck you. I will make sure that you earn as little as possible from me and all my friends. I will start migrating to another grid and I will advise my friends to do the same. I hope the Lab rots because you are going to start losing paying customers.

You remember who they are, right? The ones who pay your wages!

Jay, if you edit this, I understand.

Niran's 1.33 : Finally I Solved My Anti-Aliasing Problems : Just In Time For 1.34

By Avatar JayR Cela

Wow, this problem with jagged edginess on certain prims has been driving me nut's for the past several day's. Why is that ? Because I really like this viewer, actually I am torn between two SL viewers, FireStorm and Nirans. I ended up using the Nvidia 280.26 video driver, and it works flawlessly, no more jaggies.

I like Firestorm because I can easily read previous IM chat file's, and selectively choose to mute certain group chat's, and also a real biggy in my opinion, is the ability to adjust my jewelery via the edit menu with the X,Y,Z coordinates in the Edit mode.

These feature's are on my wish list for the Niran Viewer, and I see that version 1.34 has just been released as of today.

So I am going to download that, and get back with ya sometime later on this afternoon.

Are You Using Dual Screen Monitor's For Virtual World Enjoyment ? : Cut Down On Your Electric Bill

By Avatar JayR Cela

Recently I decided to resurrect an unused computer monitor screen that had been languishing away in my junk closet, my video card has a total of 3 output's, VGA, HDMI, and DVI

So being the limited budget person I am, what the hell, I took a trip to my local computer shop ( and I am a strong believer in the independent computer repair stores ) and picked up a VGA to DVI analog converter for $5.00

Why does it save on my electric bill ? It does because I do not have to run 2 computers at once, just one computer and 2 screen's.

LOL / just thought I would pass that along / *bigg huggs*

Will You Buy Window's 8 ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

Here is a big question, have you tried the Window's 8 Consumer Preview ? I have and once I finally got used to the Metro UI it is pretty good. Let's face it tablet PC's are the current In Thing. Personally I have no reason, nor can I justify purchasing what will eventually become a throw away piece of junk in a year or two's time. But hey, we seem to be a throw away society, that is really to bad. Give me a large tower case, a good motherboard, and lots of room to work on the gut's, and I am happy. But that is beside's the point. Windows 8 CP is pretty much bullet proof. The final release should be even more so.

However, I do not really want to shell out $100 or more dollar's for an Operating System, when I can simply download a version of Linux for free. Currently I am using Mint Linux 12 ( soon to be upgraded by the end of May ) and quite frankly it is very much like Win 8, so much so, I actually prefer it over the later. I can do word processing, read my e-mail, and use SecondLife. That is all I need a computer to do for me.

Oh well, if MS would follow in Apple's footsteps and offer Win 8 as an upgrade for let's say $50, then hell yes I would buy it in a snap, but at a projected price point of $100 and more, NO WAY ! I will stick with XP and Linux.

Oh by he way I am about to do a series of Poll's here, I hope you will participate.

Thank's

SecondLife : The Untapped Beauty

By Avatar JayR Cela

Ya know 6 and 1 half years of living in Sl, for me has been a truly wonderful thing. I try to run this blog in order to pass the time, and spread the word. You have multiple alternative Open Sim Grid's available, but mostly they are for experimentation purposes. There is no real sense of community. And then you have InWorldz, this grid seems to continue to defy the odd's. However they  seem to be poised to make a huge and major mistake soon. Log-in's will be restricted  to people using the official InWorldz Viewer.

In my opinion this is a huge mistake, basically InWorldz has taken the LL SnowGlobe viewer code and optimized it to the outdated Open Sim server structure they are currently using, it is way outdated, but it is stable.

Now that Viewer3 has had about 90% or so of the bugs worked out, thanks to Oz Linden, I see more time for the TPV's to really cut loose.

Soon we will have the Path Finding initialization baked into the viewer, along with the Havok graphic's physic's engine as well.

Does this spell doom & gloom for TPV's ? I don't think so, on the contrary it opens a entirely different world of possibilities for SL and the Third Party Developer's.

Rodvik Links continues to speak of the Gameification of SecondLife. I say GO FOR IT !!

It's a sound concept, about moving SL forward into the future.

How Many Time's Can LL Break SL Search ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

Apparently, this seems to coincide with how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop. Search is down and broken again, a simple query on Blues Club's turns up nothing. Hell a simple search on Blues turns up the same zero, nada, results.

Sheesh
