Nope, not a typo. The next release for Firestorm will be 3.0. Now, this won't necessarily be LL's 3.0 code underneath; Firestorm isn't exactly following in Linden's footprints (perhaps the Lindens should be on our heels?). Right now it's a sort-of mix of LL 2.8 with snippets of 3.0 thrown in. I have to say, the current build uses less memory and is a little easier on my CPUs than the 2.6 or even 2.5 releases.
And there are bugs. There are changes in how it works. There are new features, some that need a little polish. And of course there are some that still need to be added from Phoenix. But the devs are working hard, they're definitely earning their pay, and they're most definitely listening to the users when they create bug reports and feature requests on their jira.
And yes, it's late. It's been hoped for a couple of weeks at least that it would be just a couple weeks. But Viewer2 code has its own bugs, and we inherited those bugs. We want to get those fixed as much as possible, as well as FS-specific bugs, and put in the showstopper features like mesh and spell check.
So, hopefully, in a couple weeks it will be ready.
