Well this has been one Hell Of A Ride / The Joys of Windows 8 removal, and my subsequent woe's attempting to restore my beloved FireStorm viewer * sighs* :(
Alas I have tried and tried so many times, but to no avail.
I will now do as my heart tell's me so !

Since you are an expert you probably have done this.
I would first of all, try to roll back to an earlier time on your system to see if this helps.
It sounds to me that this is a registry problem and you will have to rebuild your profile, or if worst comes to worst, save your files and reformat your hard drive.
I never went through with the Windows 8 install, a little birdie inside of me said "no" after the download, and I am glad I did.
Download CC clearer and clean your registry and see if this helps.
I have some more ideas, but once your profile is messed up, not much you can do.
