SecondLife 2 : Does It Even Stand A Chance ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

Here's the way I am looking at SL2, it's a wait and see issue, personally I don't really care.

#1 I am not about to get ripped off again, as far a LL goes they continually stab themselves
in the foot, first the right then the left, then they pork their customers. Many folk's may not remember
the early years, I do.

#2 HomeStead Sim's, and the HUGE outright lie to all the people that bought into the Lab's BS, granting them really affordable Virtual World property, then changing the rules in the middle of the game. And more recently Changing the Term's of Service agreement, allowing LL total and unrevocable right's to anything and everything you may have created here, including scripts, note-cards, text message's, photograph's, cinema, machinnima, textures, object's ect............ And then blatantly refusing to address the issue.

#3 It's pretty much a dead topic anyway. Phillip is busy with HiFidelity, everyone seem's to be
enamored with Oculous whatever, there ain't know way in HELL I am about to wear some sort
of Virtual Reality pair of glass's, to simply chat with people and do something creative.

#4 Counter productive systematic, and continuous screwing over of the individual SL Shop and Venue Owner's, with the SL Marketplace

#5 Most, if not all of the content in SL2 will consist of Legally Stolen Intellectual Property, from within SL1.

#6 Is this a company you really want to do business with ? / I Doubt if anyone that matter's
         actually cares any longer.

No Thank's Ebbe Linden.

I'll be playing around somewhere in Open Sim.

I usually don't attend these meetings. As a lower income resident I have less say in the matter. So it was odd to find myself at a LL meeting.

This is what I heard:
1) SL 2.0 will come out in approximately three years. Meanwhile SL 1.0 will remain "as long as it is economically viable." In other words once Beta testing and Alpha delivery is complete for 2.0, 1.0 will be phased out.

2) Ebbe Linden stated that inventory of 1.0 would not be transferable. He passed it off as the cost of progress.

3) There will be an increase of fees. Only premium members will be allowed to have groups. So rather than increasing the numbers of groups you can join, the are effectively decreasing by a significant amount the number of groups available.

Many thanks for putting Ebbe's statement into the larger context. There are far reaching consequences ahead. And there's going to be a lot of unhappy people when they realize their time, effort, and creativity means nothing to Linden Labs' bottom line.
