It has been quite a while since my last post, I can make no apology, real life has been a bit on the stressful side lately. I am picking back up where I left off this Fall on The KazGrid; The OSPBA
( Open Sim Power Boat Association ) is still very much alive and well, at least in my mind it is. We have upgraded our Servers, and a number of other things are happening.
Please bear with me while I gather my thoughts and get back to work.
Stay tuned.

The OpenSim Power Boat Association : Things Learned
Hello again anyone reading this.
The OSPBA has got a bit of attention lately, and it has been a great experience for myself and a few other people, quite a few things about the Physics Engines currently being used ( Bullet and ubODE )have been brought out and into the open.
For one thing I think we have all learned that there is a good bit of broken Mesh content out there, not that this is all bad, let's face it the Havok Physics Engine pretty much rules the Video Game Industry. Bullet and ubODE are relatively new and have been making progress as expected.
I doubt if we can go back in time and fix all of the current broken content, that however does not mean it is impossible to move forward and fix the flaws.

OpenSim HyperGrid : Have you tried the new Linux version of the Alchemy Viewer ?
By Avatar
JayR Cela
This is a really nice OpenSim viewer, it is very easy to use and is not bogged down with a bunch of unnecessary features that the average user might find to be confusing. From what I have heard the code base is based upon a combination of FireStorm and Singularity, so in my opinion that is really good news, both FS and Sing are excellent, and so is this viewer. There is however 1 major Flaw you can not set the DrawDistance beyond 512 meters. Face Palm here on this one / Haa.haaa an oversight I am sure.
I am not a Windows user so I have no idea if this flaw is inherent to all 3 versions, Mac, PC, Linux
I have tried to find a Debug Setting to fix this problem, so far I have not been able to find anything. If someone out there has some insight or a fix, please let the community know, this is a really Kool OpenSim Viewer.

OpenSim HyperGrid: ubODE a Phenomenal Accompleshment
By Avatar JayR Cela
I have been taking some flack for my support of the Bullet Physics engine recently, so let me set things straight.
I want something that WORKS
PLAIN AND SIMPLE !!!
Do ya get it ?
I do not want something that breaks a ton of current OpenSim content running around loose and confusing people. I make my apologies to uBIT, ubODE is phenomenal. I think that the OpenSim community owes you so much very due respect for tackling this issue.

OpenSim HyperGrid : Bullet Physics or ubODE ?
By Avatar JayR Cela
Look I am getting pissed off at the backlash from several of my recent post's. I am merely stating the fact's as I know them, ubODE is a fantastic physics engine, and rates right up there with the commercial Havok engine. Bullet physics however is a real thing, they have a vast community of developers behind the project, including NASA.
As far as I am concerned something that renders tons of current mesh content in OpenSim unusable is a no go there situation.

OpenSim HyperGrid : Bullet Physics is Alive and Well
By Avatar JayR Cela
The Big debate(s) right now in OpenSim are Permissions suddenly changing from Full Permissions to No Permissions, and the ubODE physics engine. We should all start to breathe easy soon as the OpenSim 0.9.0 code is very close to being released in a Stable state, and it will contain both Bullet Physics as the default, with ubODE as an option.
I will say this much as far as Physics engines go, Bullet at least has a dedicated Web Site, ubODE does not.
http://bulletphysics.org/wordpress/
It is worth taking a look at.

OpenSim Hypergrid : So You Want Blender with All the Bells and Whistles ?
By Avatar JayR Cela
Make no mistake about it Blender frustrates the Hell out of Me, and I have no time or interest in learning it's convoluted User Interface or arcane commands. However i have learned that the Stock Version is severely crippled, by way of lack of a number of plug-ins. So what are you going to do?
Simple solution to the problem if you are a Debian / Ubuntu / Mint Linux user, you just add the appropriate PPA.
OK before anyone jumps all over me saying I should be using ARCH, or Fedora or what ever, I make no apologies, I cut my Linux teeth on Debian / Ubuntu and to a lesser degree Mint. That is what I am familiar with and I see no reason to change. I am not a regular Blender user, I personally find it to be very confusing. However once you master it I have seen some spectacular results, and you will require a number of plug-ins in order to achieve your end desired output.
There is a fantastic PPA available currently being run by Thomas Schiex that has every thing built in with a fresh installation of Blender

OpenSim HyperGrid : The Alchemy Viewer 5.x now has a Linux Client
By Avatar JayR Cela
I have been waiting for this a long time, the Alchemy Viewer has recently released their Linux version of the 5.x series.
This is a Kick Ass Viewer, I will admit to the fact I am not happy with the choice of using the CHUI Chat Interface, but other than that it is an excellent alternative choice.

The OpenSim Power Boat Association is Still Alive and Kicking
By Avatar JayR Cela
Hi there everyone that happens to be following this endeavor. The OSPBA is still alive, with several behind the scene long time OS developers willing to chip into the cause.
The sad reality is that we all have Real Lives to deal with, and that's just reality, plain and simple.
Kazuko Yoshida of TheKaz Grid has generously donated 4 standard 256x256 sims to the project, unfortunately we were presented with several setbacks during the month of July.
#1 a server failure, that issue has been solved.
#2 we tried the ubODE Physics Engine, witch rendered quite a bit of imported Free-Bee content to be PHANTOM Prims. This is a common problem due to the fact that a lot of people that upload Mesh content into OpenSim are unable to understand the incomprehensible instructions located within the OpenSim Doc's, thereby inadvertently uploading their MESH Content as Visual as opposed to the Collision physics model. It is a very common mistake, and if you have ever tried to read the instructions on the OpenSim site, it is easy to see why. They seriously need a rewrite.
Sounds confusing, doesn't it ? Yes it is confusing, and it should not be that way. ubODE looks as if it will be the future Physics Engine for OpenSim. Unfortunately ubODE render's a TON of current Mesh content unusable. that is unless you idea of a good time is running around and placing Invisi-Prims all over your Grid. And believe me that is not going to change. The advantages of ubODE are really something else, I have seen them in action on The OpenSim Life grid run by Bill Blight, and the results are spectacular to say the least. But that is because he knows what he is doing and does not need to read instructions.
So where does that leave us with all this broken Mesh content that works perfectly well with the Bullet Physics Engine, and suddenly turns to Phantom when we implement ubODE ?
Currently you are screwed, I ran around all over our Grid setting up invisi-prims in order to place a BAND-AID on the problem, until we finally decided to revert to the Bullet Physics Engine.
Haaa-haaa, then I spent a great deal of time finding and removing all of them once we decided to revert the Grid back to Bullet Physics. And to Top that off if you do not import your ubODE content exactly as it should be, you end up with double triangulation, thereby adding extra stress on the server. It is a complete mess.
However there is a project currently underway to rewrite the underlying Bullet Physics Engine.
Stay Tuned. This is not over yet.

The OpenSim Power Boat Association : A Few Setbacks : And Moving Forward
By Avatar jayR Cela
Hi there all folks interested in Hydroplane racing in OpenSim, I have had a few set backs with my plans, but nonetheless, I am moving forward, Bill Blight from OpenSimLife Grid has donated some server space for an ubODE Var sim, it is Gigantic, and a complete trip to check out. The ubODE Physics model really stands out here as any physical contact with another object results in a very realistic reaction, in other words you can do irreparable damage to your boat. Haaa ! It is a Blast.
TheKazGrid, one of our servers is currently down, so I am rebuilding on another one that has 3 of my Sims, for right now we will be using Bullet to connect to various other Sims and everything seems to be working well.
3rdGrid I have a place there and with the help of resident Eldovar Lamilton have an Auto Delete version of the MadCat 1, this is a huge Var Sim and seems to be rather slow, also you can not rezz your own boats at this location.
The really kool thing about TheKazGrid and OpenSimLife is that anyone is able to rezz their own boats for testing.
The OpenSim HyperGrid Jump Address's will be coming soon.

OpenSim HyperGrid : The SnikSnoodle Factor : Easy OpenSim Sever SetUp Instructions on GitHub
By Avatar JayR Cela
Wow, this just blew me away the other day, an actual set of instructions that are readable by the average person wishing to set up a home based OpenSim Grid. It was posted by sniksnoodle and she placed it on github.com
Here is the address for this tremendous resource.
SnickSnoodle's Easy OpenSim Server Setup Ubuntu
This is a godsend, I had found it on G+ yesterday and bookmarked it, today I do not seem to be able to find it again, so is no big deal, just click on the link above. It deals with a typical Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS based Linux distribution deployment, and puts most of the very complicated jargon into layman's easy to understand step by step instructions.
Thanks a lot Snicksnoodle

OpenSim Power Boat Association ( OSPBA ) Our First Test on 3rdRock Grid
By Avatar JayR Cela
Well the first test's on 3rdRock Grid were not very promising, the 8x8 Var Bullet Physics Sim was disappointingly SLOW !
Almost a waste of time, and the lack of race track markers resulted in my increasing my viewers draw distance to maximum, further slowing things down. Hopefully I will be able to resolve some of these issues soon.
I do have an ace up my sleeve with an entirely new ubODE Grid devoted to the OSPBA and will be opening it to the public this coming week.
Stay Tuned for further announcements. / LOL

OSPBA : OpenSim Power Boat Association : Things are happening Fast : And We Need Some Help w/ubODE
By Avatar JayR Cela
The past week has been a real trip, stuff is starting to take hold, currently on TheKazGrid the new headquarters building and docking area is finished. I am planning a staging area that will allow various parties interested to have a display area to meet with potential customers interested in purchasing a Closed Source solution Hydroplane. Now I am a big time Open Source everything type of Linux nut-job, so you know this goes against my grain in every way. But WTF / LOL !
I have seen some really KILLER ! No Mod, No Trans Hydros recently, everyone is welcome.
Now here's the catch, I am in desperate need of some ubODE Physics Engine guru's expertise help with Standard 256x256 Sim Border Crossing issues on the KazGrid / I give you the HyperGrid jump
thekaz.ddns.net:8002:ChibaSea1
I have the MadCat 1 Hydro with ubODE , and a JetSki and a Modern Hydroplane rezzed that are Full Perm, if you get some extra time, feel free to stop by. Kazuko and I seem to have narrowed a few things down that may be causing the stalling issue at Sim Borders, and we are seeking other opinions and advice.
I am not going to debate the pro's and or cons of using standard sized sims and border crossing's. I have already made arrangements with 2 other grids to open OSPBA Headquarter operations on Grids using Var Sims. The simple fact is that after Kazuko and I have examined several variations of the limited amount of unODE water based vehicle physics scripts. we have both come to the conclusion that the scripts need some Tender Loving Care and a good bit of Fine Tuning. That being said if you are not busy and would like to lend a hand / Thats Kool :_)
I will be opening a new OSPBA Headquarters Branch 2 next week on another Grid
( undisclosed at this time ) an 8x8 with ubUDE running the boats with a number of unusual race course layouts. This place you will have to experience on your own, I can not describe it in any terms besides it is like playing a really good video game. The Physics are bizarre yet at the same time realistic.
Next up on my list is that I am in negotiations with 3rdGrid for an OSPBA sponsored location on their new 8x8 Sim running Bullet Physics. As a mater of fact I will be having an un-official OSPBA test run on 3rdGrid Saturday 7-1-2017 from 12:00pm Pst until 2:00pm here is the HG jump address

OpenSim Power Boat Association : Groundbreaking - Day 2 Progress Report
By Avatar JayR Cela
I am on Day 2 of building the OSPBA Headquarters, the layout consists of 4 standard sized sims arranged in a T-configuration, 3 across and 1 in the center bottom of the T, as you can see from the picture my MadCat series of Full Perm Hydro's consists of 8 meter 12 meter and 20 meter configurations. This will allow for a short, medium and long run races using all 3 water sims for the 20 meter class. The association's headquarters is located at the bottom of the T and is mostly empty. The 3 water sims are pretty much barren aside from the still to be installed buoys marking off the oval shaped course's. The race course itself is set to auto return, just in case you crash your boat, it will be returned to your inventory's Lost and Found folder.
There is plenty of dock space and an ample spectator area. With the proper draw distance setting in your viewer ( about 360 meters ) there will be no bad viewing seat on the Island.
The headquarter's itself is currently being decorated with a number of pictures of various types of Hydroplanes and hopefully some other related materials.
Unfortunately we have not settled on a landing point for the Sim yet, so I can not give you a working SLUR to HyperGrid Jump to quite yet, that will be coming very soon, however if you are curious and would like to take a sneak peek and grab yourself some copies of my MadCat free-bee hydro's, it's easy enough to find.
HyperGrid jump to our Welcome Area at : thekaz.ddns.net:8002:TheKazLand
Upon arrival open your World Map and do a search for ChibaSea1 and set the coordinates to 202,160,24
this will drop you at the entrance to the OSPBA headquarters, go on inside inside and grab your self a Boxed copy of one ar all 3 of the free-bee MatCat hydroplanes, there are two ReadMe files in the box, please read them. We are running OpenSim 0.9 RC2 with Bullet Physics so sim border crossings are pretty much seamless, but I have to stress this 1 point, if you are wearing a Animation Overrider ( AO ) you must detach it ! Simply turning it off, will not work and cause the boat to stall, similarly if you are using your OS Viewers built in AO, you must turn that off before attempting to drive the boat.
Hope to see ya soon.

The race course itself is set to auto return, just in case you crash your boat, it will be returned to your inventory's Lost and Found folder.

OpenSim Power Boat Association : The new Headquarters : Is Under Construction
By Avatar JayR Cela
This morning I broke ground on the OSPBA headquarters location. It will be on
TheKazLand Grid
I have been working together with grid owner Kazuko Yoshida for a number of months to prepare the TheKazLand for its primary purpose as "The Water Sport and Recreation Destination" on the HyperGrid. Our ultimate goal is to have all of the publicly available Sim's reachable via the numerous Lakes and Rivers.
There is not much sense in visiting the OSPBA Sim just yet, this may take a week or so in order to get things set up properly. However if you would just like to drop on by for a general look around the Grid, please feel free to do so, The HyperGrid jump to the main landing area is. thekaz.ddns.net:8002:TheKazLand
At this point in time we are recommending FireStorm as the prefered viewer for our residents, however any current OpenSim compatible viewer is perfectly fine for visiting.
Please be patient, and keep checking back here for ongoing developments.

OpenSim Power Boat Racing Association : Locations to Acquire and Test Drive the MadCat Hydroplane Series : Part 1
By Avatar JayR Cela
The past few days have shown to be very interesting, several people have contacted me about sponsoring race events on their grids. I am currently in the process of Boxing up my MadCat Series of Hydroplanes with proper documentation and credit to Shin Ingen and the person that did the original design of 2 prims I used, for the Motor and exhaust pipes, from avatar Locked.Semaphore@locksgrid.ddns.net:9000 and one of his Full Perm creations.
This is taking a bit longer than I had anticipated, however everything will be ready by this coming weekend.

The Open Sim Power Boat Racing Association : 2 Headquarters Locations and 3 Boats TBA Soon
By Avatar JayR Cela
I am a very big fan of Hydroplane racing, and thanks to the generous contributions of open waterways and land area on both 3rd Rock Grid and The Kaz Grid, and some store space donated by Lani Global on OSGrid I am starting to get the ball rolling. My first 3 boats are untextured and ready to be customized. All three are using a Bullet physics script created by Shin Ingen, and slightly modified for the seating position in the Midget model.
Now the big test is going to be a comparison between the OpenSim 0.8.2 and 0.9.xx series of the OpenSim Grid. The Kaz Grid is currently running with OS 0.9.RC2 with a very spacious lake area made up of the standard 256x256 sq. meter regions, and 3rdRock Grid is opting for the Var Sim design.
One thing I have found right off the bat is crappy scripts perform differently BIG TIME ! We had a boat that worked great on the 3rdRock Var Sims and barely worked at all on the Kaz Grid standard regions, it would stall or stutter every time the vehicle came to a border crossing.
This new Multi Grid Group I am proposing is open for suggestions, the only rule being that the engine scripts have to be Open Source. I have yet to be convinced that Bullet or ubODE physics is the way to go, however most people I have spoken with tend to lean in the Bullet physics camp.
I have 3 Hydroplanes that are going to be freely available later on today at 3 HyperGrid Locations.
They are far from perfect and are not intended to be. I have designed them to be modified to your hearts content.
Please stay tuned, as I will be Boxing them up for distribution, and posting some locations on the HyperGrid where you will be able to rezz them and have some fun.

OpenSim Power Boat Racing Association : My Idea's for Cross-Grid Competition : and setting a Physics Engine Standard
By Avatar JayR Cela
I have an idea I would like some opinions on, please bear with me while I explain.
Growing up in the state of Michigan USA during the 1960's and 70's the big events of the summer season was attending the numerous Hydroplane racing events throughout the state. My family and friends would drive for hours just to be able to attend some of the more prestigious and spectacular races, the biggest daddy of them all was, and still is the APBA Gold Cup ( American Power Boat Association ) on the Detroit River just off the shores of historic Belle Isle. It is a fantastic and exciting spectator sporting event, watching man and women, struggling against a machine and skimming bare inches above the water at speeds upwards of 120 to 180 m.p.h. Every now and then a driver would loose control and flip the boat or crash into another one. The excitement in the crowd was incredible.
At this point in time OpenSim is trying to cross a milestone within the Physics Engine debate, do we use Bullet Physics or UbODE Physics, as you may already be aware of Second Life uses the HAVOK Physics engine licensed from https://www.havok.com/physics/ and requires a fairly hefty sum of money to have the privilege of including it within your Virtual World environment.
The UbODE engine has the advantage of physical movement scripts that are fully compatible with scripts that have been developed and fine tuned over the years within SecondLife, Bullet physics on the other hand does not. We as OpenSim residents have several other issues that a Closed Grid such as SecondLife or Inworldz administrators do not have to deal with, multiple versions ( the exception being the SL Beta testing grid ) of the OpenSim Server environment, some Grids are running 0.8.2 and are using Var Sim's of enormous size in order to beat the dreaded Sim Border crossing issue, other's have adapted the new 0.9.xx series and are preferring to stick to the standard 256x256 Sim size, there by avoiding some of the issues associated with maintaining a Var Sim.
I feel it is very important to get this Physic's engine debate behind us and move forward with one agreed upon standard. I will be actively promoting Hydroplane racing event's throughout the remainder of 2017, and some feed back is definitely welcome. The Idea is to sponsor multiple participating Grids in an open competition, in order to compare various statistics that relate to presenting overall performance characteristics and publish an easy to comprehend guideline.

Open Sim and Permission's Changing Unexpectedly
By Avatar JayR Cela
I dont know if you have experienced this recently, but I have. Stuff that I collect that is obviously FULL PERM and intended to be freely distributed, end up turning out as No-Copy / No-Transfer
Sometimes if I re-rezz the stuff it is once again Full-Perm, is this just me or am I insane ?

OpenSim and Computer Reality(s) : Are you about to buy a new computer ? -and- Why Is Windows 10 such a Monumentally Really Bad Joke
By Avatar JayR Cela
#1 It is still the most insecure Operating System in existence, and at the mercy of countless attacks by constant criminal and malicious attacks, unless you are on the subscription based Enterprise version and it is completely locked down by the Sys. Admin.
#2 The Windows REGISTRY is, has been and will continue to be a JOKE until the end of time, a really bad idea, and a complete jumbled mess.
#3 The Win 10 Up Date process, ( and God help you if you are unlucky enough to have the Win10 Home version installed ) The Cumulative updates are a monumental pain in the ass and the constant reboot annoyance after so many even small updates is bad joke at worst.
Ok look, I am retired and have been repairing computers as a hobby for friends family and acquaintances for the past 20 years or so. You bring me a Desktop or Tower, I will fix it 9 out of 10 times, you bring me a non working Laptop, I will usually tell you to just throw it into the Recycle Bin and go buy another one, or take it to someone that specializes in fixing Laptops. Or give it to me and I will scrap out the Hard Drive and Memory Modules, other that that there is nothing to fix, unless you are a masochist and enjoy paying an expert bukoo bucks for a repair.
My advice if you are considering buying a new computer, ask or make a new friend that is a Linux person and build your own desktop - tower, or just spend the extra money and buy a Mac.

OpenSim : HyperGrid : My Newest Home is Located on TheKaz Grid
By Avatar JayR Cela
It has been several months now since I first met Avatar - Kazuko Yoshida, at a meeting on another grid. I have a hobby in OpenSim providing as many free-bee's as I am able to randomly collect from the HyperGrid. Kazuko asked me if i would be willing to contribute to her new endeavor. I said yes and so far I have found it to be an absolute blast.
Now I do have to make one statement, this is a Gorean friendly Role Play Grid, and I am not into the GOR philosophy. That being said the Gorean area is a self contained 16 standard 256x265 Sims, and does not expand itself into the other sims. Instead we are focusing on a strategy that will eventually connect all of the MainLand Regions via a river, its tributaries, and an extremely large lake, in other words, leisure boating is a very big priority here.
We have made tremendous progress as of late since switching from OS 0.8.2 to OS 0.9RC2, there are still some odd Sim crossing bug's that need to be addressed, hopefully these issues will be ironed out with the final OS 0.9 release.
There are some free parcels of land available, and a new Shopping District looking for content creators. Whether you are inexperienced or an old time OpenSim user, perhaps you are migrating from SecondLife or InWorldz, all are welcome to stop by and have a look around. We also have the Gloebits currency enabled.
We are recommending the FireStorm viewer for all residents, Singularity will work for a visit, however it seems to choke and flame out if you try and use it as a resident Avatar.
Here are some web links.

OpenSim Hypergrid : Gloebits Universal HyperGrid Currency : It's Time for Serious Consideration
By Avatar JayR Cela
I must start out by saying I am not directly involved with Gloebits beside having recently established an account for intergrid purchasing power of OpenSim-HyperGrid content. I think on the surface it is an excellent idea, how it will work out who knows, it is an exciting prospect. I think it's about time to consider the inevitable, if the HyperGrid id going to survive it needs a way to exchange commerce between grids besides the Kitely Market Place. Believe it or not some folks just love to go out exploring and shopping, I know I do. Buying from a catalog is great, it's convenient. It's also quite boring, :_) I enjoy walking and flying around just to marvel at the depth of creativity taking place within the OpenSim Metaverse.
From what I have been reading lately SecondLife is loosing Sim's on a month to month basis at an alarming rate, and the steady decline may soon be irreversible. Lets face it, running a Server Farm is expensive, and LL blew it big time years ago by not embracing what it had helped to create. I believe Project Sansar will be a total FLOP right out of the gate. Ebbie Linden will be relieved of his job, and a new narrow minded person shall be put into place in order to continue the stupidity.
GloeBits on the other hand offers a unique opportunity for the HyperGrid to unite into what is it's ultimate destiny. One Gigantic intertwined and massive Grid, capable of sustaining most small Real Life country's with the amount of incoming and outgoing trade commerce. Will it be GloeBits ? Who knows, this could turn out to be another disaster similar to the screwball idea a year or so back, the name of that ill fated project eludes me right now, BrightHouse Canopy or something or other. But basically it was doomed to be a flop from the get go, supposedly it allowed you to pay extra RL $ to have a 3rd party stream the SL Client to your IP address. Total Failure, and a number of people suddenly found themselves with nothing more than a pipe dream, and an extra bill on their Credit Card or PayPal bill.
GloeBits is different, it does not promise something unachievable and although the idea is a lofty one, and in my opinion just as brilliant as the Kitley Market Place, it is certainly worth consideration along with deep scrutiny, as well. In the mean time it seems to be establishing a rather firm foothold in some of the more recognized minor grids. Please see this link listed below.

OpenSim : HyperGrid : FireStorm Viewer : Clearing Up Some Minor Annoyances With Debug : Select and Drag Distance
By Avatar JayR Cela
This is going to be a short post dealing with something that has been bothering me for a while now, and is the main reason I prefer the Singularity viewer over FS for building with really large prims on huge parcels of land. And the good news is that these shortcomings are very easy to resolve.
I am going to give a warning here, the Debug Settings seems to be a scary thing, and it can cause numerous problems if you don't know what you are doing, however there is no need to worry with these two tip's.
Open your FireStorm viewer and log into you favorite grid of choice, press CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+S this will open your Debug Settings window, in the search bar type in the word "limit" scroll down a bit to LimitDragDistance and LimitSelectDistance, change these values from their default TRUE value to FALSE.
Now I must warn you, you need to be careful with your new found abilities, it can be very easy to inadvertently drag things right off the screen into virtual world oblivion / haaa haa / or wherever they disappear to, no one seems to know for sure where they go. But that is another story in itself.

OpenSim : HyperGrid : Seems as if the Singularity Viewer is Back Into the Swing of Things
By Avatar JayR Cela :
My favorite viewer of choice ( at least for building ) is Singularity, second is FireStorm, and I am just dying to get my hands on the newest Alchemy viewer once a Linux version becomes available, Kokua is nice but I seldom use it, CoolVL no comment :_(
Anyways since sadly Latif Chalifa passed away last year, until recently the development seems to have been dormant, not so now. I am happy to say that the Team Singularity seems to be pushing out a number of new updates on a semi regular basis, for Linux : Mac : Windows, They just released x86_64-1.8.7.6919 and it is a great Test release, however I still am getting : "packet_out_of_order" error messages on the console with a small amount of grids that I have been trying to join. If you are experiencing the same, my recommendation is to just use the FireStorm viewer.
Now the Grids I belong to that are not showing these same errors, Singularity really shines threw for my purposes, and that is Prim Building, you simply cannot beat it.
So in closing, if you are a Prim Builder and would like to give the newest test versions of the Singularity viewer a try, you can drop on by the Alpha build(s) page.

OpenSim Showdown : with : SecondLife and Sansar : It's About to Heat Up !
By Avatar JayR Cela
Well here I am back again today to rant and rave about the Hordes of a rising OpenSim populace exiting SecondLife for greener pastures, and Linden Lab's old SL platform that will be retired eventually.
LOL / Now if you can believe that, than you are a real Trip ! / SecondLife is not going to go away because of the Sansar Project, it will be completely overwhelmed by OpenSim, and the HyperGrid.
The year 2017 is going to be really interesting as far as Virtual World's technologies are concerned. I am predicting a huge competition between VR and AR headsets sometime around October of 2018, my personally feelings are that VR ( Virtual Reality Headsets ) will ultimately fail, falling wayside to the AR ( Augmented Reality Glasses )
Anyways, I have been reading recent articles posted on various blogs blaming the recent slow and agonizing death of SeconLife is due to Project Sansar's upcoming debut.
Bull Shit !!
People just got fed up with coughing up all the unnecessary $$$$$
Is Plain And Simple, OpenSim provides everything necessary for many creative and extremely talented people to partake in what once was an entirely closed, manipulated and costly system, $295.00 US. per month.
Let's take a look at the new Options we now have in OpenSim. Phenomenal service at a fraction of the cost ( depending upon the service provider ) The ability to import mesh and sculpts creations and export them as well, entire sim's for as low as $8.00 US. per month. HyperGrid along with several market place(s) most notably Kitely.
There is one thing that OpenSim really lacks, that SecondLife provides. The easy ability to meet and associate with like minded people. In SecondLife it is a simple matter of browsing the web site or using the in-world browser search feature. OpenSim ? well the search feature built into the current available selection of client's is usually just barely functional.
Just something to think about.

Well here I am back again today to rant and rave about the Hordes of a rising OpenSim populace exiting SecondLife for greener pastures, and Linden Lab's old SL platform that will be retired eventually.
