Viewer 2.4 Pretty in Pink~The Catznip Viewer~With The Starlight Skin

The Catznip SL Viewer is currently being developed by resident Kitty Barnett, with some help from my dear friend Hitomi Tiponi of the famed StarLight V2 skin mod. And yes it does include a Pink and Silver Skin :_)
25FPS
Skin Selection in Preferences

Performance in FPS was excellent averaging around 25 to 28 and dropping to a respectable 15fps in very crowded Sims.

This viewer is not listed on the official LL TPV page, but I would not be discouraged by this in any way. Catznip is really just a re-skinned version of V2 Beta4 with some nicely added touch's as well.

The Dolphin Viewer for Second Life V2.3.0 & 1.5.39.3627

I said that this week would be a lot of fun for me, exploring various viewers for SL. The Dolphin 1.5.x proved to really be an extremely nice choice if you like simplicity, ease of use, tons of power under the hood, and a definite Retro look similar to the old LL 1.19.x series. The V2.3.0 was a bit of a disappointment after using the LL V2.4 Beta and Kirsten's S(20)(43). So you may want to hold off until a V2.4 version arrives.

Version 1.5 is available for Win / Mac / Linux, V2.3 is only available on Linux and is geared towards OpenSuse 11.1 / 11.2 / 11.3 offering a one click installation procedure, for other distro's a standard .tar.bz2 file is available as well.

Dolphin V2.3 is a definate big YAWN !!, non transparent windows !! However it does include a Worn tab in the inventory box. And an excellent Mini Map whom the Dev. claims is made for people that are into sailing their boats in SL. I have to admit to not really spending much time with this release, as I feel the upcoming 2.4 should be worth the wait. Here are a few screen shots.

V.1.5.x proved to indeed be an excellent choice for Sailing the waterway's and lakes in SL, although I did not actually use a boat ( I flew instead ) all Sim crossings were flawless, including the dreaded "Corner Sim Boarder" problem. I believe this may be due to new server technology being used by LL on the back end. But I seem to recall reading something on the viewers web page regarding improvements in their viewer code to improve reliability for boarder crossings.

There are no extra build tools, radar or enhanced WindLight settings here, just a rock solid, stable and fun viewer to use. Highly Recommended for boaters and those folks that are into flying around in SL

SecondLife Viewer2 Beta 4 vs. Kirsten's S(20)(43)

Well I must say one thing right off the bat. Both of these viewers are a pleasure to use. If you like cutting edge features, and have a good rig, defiantly give Kirsten's a try. If you are more comfortable sticking with official LL release's' you cant go wrong with the new Beta 4. Seems to me that the Lab is finally listening to the user base, and implementing some long over due enhancement's and features. I can actually use this productively while building, will need more testing, but so far so good. I love the fact that transparency to different
features focus control has finally be addressed, by LL in Beta4. The auto updating feature looks like a good idea as well.  Here are some screen shots

Kirsten S(20)(43)                                                 Tons of Extra Setup Features

Wow things sure have changed in the last 5 weeks, besides a still annoying IM and Group System Chat kludge,( I cant stand the current piece of crap ) both of these viewers seem to be an excellent choice. If you are into taking photo's or making machination then Kirsten's S(20)(43) is a no hands down winner. I also noticed that the FPS was regularly 5 or 6 frames ahead of Beta4 is all test situations.

Feels great to be back !
