Virtual Worlds : Why I Use Phoenix and Firestorm

By Avatar JayR Cela

    They work

I can read legacy log files, I can selectively mute group chats, plain and simple. I have a wonderful camera control, and the ability to do whatever I choose to do. I can jump to other grids easily, and they both work flawlessly on both 32 bit Windows and Linux.

I like the Flexible User Interface. ( and we can thank Oz Linden for that ) And the people behind Phoenix ~ FireStorm actually use the software.

Does LL really care?

Mister Acacia is online

I don't know the answer to that, to be honest. They bring us features, some of which are good, many of which are just so-so, some that plain suck, some that introduce problems and none of which seem to fix any problems.

Today it's Direct Delivery, specifically the Merchant Outbox. There's a JIRA issue saying that Linux users can't use the outbox. It got quick attention and was acknowledged and assigned to their pool user, misnamed WorkingOnIt Linden. But this morning Oz Linden changed the issue. He unassigned it, meaning LL are not working on it (so no real change there), but set the fix version to Open Development Candidates. This is explained as "Issues that are good candidates for open source developers to take up."

What does this really mean? I'm not sure. I could speculate that LL can't fix it and so they're asking the general public for help, but only those who actually look to see if LL need help. I could speculate that LL have no desire to fix this problem because they don't fix their bugs and instead only deploy new features and restrict innovation, so they're leaving about 10% of their userbase unsupported.

I could speculate, but I won't. I've asked for an explanation, but since that also isn't in keeping with deploying faulty new features, I don't expect I'll get a response.

I would ask that my fellow Linux users check in on that JIRA, watch and vote, and let LL know that it works or doesn't work for you.

I also ask that my fellow Windows and Mac users open that JIRA and then go to one of the related issues (28630 and 28631) and watch, vote and comment. One of you should add some sysinfo and maybe a viewer log.

Let's remind LL that they make a profit off of our in-world and marketplace spending, and if they're going to treat us like shit then that's what they'll get.

Virtual Worlds : My First Look At The Newest FireStorm Release

By Avatar JayR Cela

This is a wonderful Virtual World Viewer, it does have a few quirk's and kink's here and there.

One thing it does manage to do is continue to build upon a very solid foundation.

But I will still use Phoenix.

Once my health improve's, I will do my best to keep you amused.

Virtual Worlds : Satire And Opinions

By Avatar JayR Cela

I am not even sure why I am bothering to post this. But here goes.
This blog is  intended to be informative, and sometime's satirical, but mostly just an expression of my twisted sense of humor.

If you get a laugh off of it, or find some useful information here, that's great.

If ya don't, the only thing I can say is.....

Virtual Worlds : New Phoenix And FireStorm Released

By Avatar JayR Cela

It has taken me a while to express my views on the new release of the two virtual world viewers, Phoenix and FireStorm, so here we go.

I had some reoccurring problems with Firestorm, a loss of the majority of my settings was quite annoying, not really that big of an issue. What did strike me as a major concern, is that my monitor just kept shutting down.

Just a blank screen, totally dead after several minutes. This is the only program I have ever come across that seems to cause this problem.

I ended up installing a Nividia driver  version from several years ago.

And let me tell ya, uninstalling a newer Nvidia driver is a complete nightmare, this bloated software on a Windows based machine is absolutely a pain in the ass. And trying to clean your registry afterwards, well you may as well just set aside an entire day digging through MicroSoft mayhem registry hell.

Phoenix on the other hand runs flawlessly, consumes less memory on both Windows and Linux perfectly.

So what does this tell you ?

    You be the judge

Virtual Worlds : Distancing My Self From Politics

By Avatar JayR Cela

Yeah I come off as a bit of a lunatic. I sometimes need to look around for my brain, it's here somewhere.

I have a number of friends that are very cool people in my life. Some of them want me to get political here on this blog. That is not my place in life. I am here to talk about virtual worlds, and how they can be a benefit to people.

I'll do my best to keep this blog going. And I just want to say I love everyone that has been a regular reader.

    That's it.

Window's 8 I Really Like It !

By Avatar JayR Cela

I have been using this OS for a number of day's. As far as I can tell it is rock solid.

The Metro UI seems to have gotten a number of people upset. It's cool once ya get used to it

Will Linden Realms Re-Invent Gaming ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

Wow I sure hope so, it has been a while since I last visited Linden Realms.I think the LL team is onto something good here.

The upcoming proposed tools for game development show a lot of promise.

    Ya gotta remember one thing.

SL was and is designed mostly by us.
I really think the Linden Realms initiative is something that needs to be explored. The new potential for various gaming possibilities are pretty astounding.

Virtual Worlds : What's My Gender Have To Do With It?

By Avatar JayR Cela

I rarely talk politic's here, but I just have to say something.

This huge windbag, I will refer to him as The Rush to eventual disaster.

For him to come out with the outrageous statements recently.

What does gender have to do with anything here ?

So How Did You Fall In Virtual Love ?

More and likely ya just happened to meet someone. Treat them with respect and cherish the time you spend together.

So What's Going On With Virtual Worlds ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

Well for one thing, they have allowed many people who are unfortunately disabled a chance to feel and become productive members of our society. It does not really matter if you belong to SecondLife or InWorldz, or OS Grid, what ever you want to call it. Virtual World,'s are a tremendous benefit  to to a large number of people that just so happen to have been born with physical and or mental disabilities.

I am so happy to be able to contribute, and keep people amused with my sometimes mindless rambling's.

Second Life: What a mesh!

Mister Acacia is online

So have you been crashing when you try to edit a notecard or object? Pretty regularly?

Are you wearing mesh when that happens?

Seems wearing mesh does something odd and makes you crash to desktop when you try to edit.

Thanks, LL, for another wonderful feature. >.>

SecondLife : My Best Friend

By Avatar JayR Cela

Having a friend in SL is a truly wonderful thing. My SL wife means the world to me. I can not Evan imagine life without her. Nor can I forget all of the friends I have met here, their friendship and love.

    Thank You

SecondLife : The Reality Of Unreality

By Avatar JayR Cela

What is real, and what is not real ? When it come's to virtual world's pretty much everything is in your mind, and on your computer screen. It is easy to be critical, sometimes making comment's that are derogatory of people. Lord only knows I have made a number of comment's here on this blog, that I wish I could take back. But that's not going to happen. It's already in print.

It's pretty well known that in RL I am a disabled person, mostly mentally, and I do like to explore Virtual World's. This Unreal Reality has allowed me to feel like a whole person.

    Thank You SecondLife

SecondLife : The TPV Debacle That Never Happened

By Avatar JayR Cela

So what's happening in the crazy world of SecondLife these day's. Not to much on the various viewer choice's right now. Catznip has a new one from about a week ago, Dolphin and Zen have recent releases, Hitomi is still at it with the StarLight Skin. They are all good, and labors of love from the generous developers that spend their time, making SL a very Cool Place ya just cant help but love these folk's.

So after a Big Kiss to all the Third Party Developer's, THANK YOU :_)

As you are probably aware the new TPV policy turned out to be a minor fizzle, I do miss the TPV Viewer Label to my name tag. but it's not really a big deal.

How it was handled by LL is a big deal, they pulled it off. After an initial, disastrous announcement, everyone was freaking out. Jessica Lyon stepped right up to the plate, with the help of Rockliffe College, and managed to fill 4 sim's, that's 300 people. Treet TV was there as well.

One week after that, OZ and Jessica had a discussion broadcast live.A lot of people were worked up about nothing. Including Me / LOL

Virtual Worlds : Stirring The Flames

By Avatar JayR Cela

Hi there, I'm just here to rant for a bit.And I have got to say this much.

There is not enough emphasis  dealing with SecondLife and it's almost unbelievable contribution's for the  disabled among us. I will continue to keep stirring up crazy stuff. Haa Haa !

Thank You

Is SecondLife Really Relevant ? "We Need Hyper Grid"

By Avatar JayR Cela

Ok lets look at this situation rationally, SL is not real, but then again it is a very real part of many person's out look on reality. How do we as a whole person perceive ourselves in the ever changing multi-verse of the constantly changing virtual universe ?  I can say this much, 6 years ago I met my SL wife. I can not evan describe how much I love her,

I have met so many people here on my journey. There have been a few folk's I don't really want to associate myself with. But every now and then some one pop's up out of the blue to say hello, and this just makes me come to the reality.

LL is blowing it BIG TIME by not allowing Hyper Grid !!!!

Virtual Worlds : Rogue SecondLife Viewers : And Who Give's A Crap

By Avatar JayR Cela

The recent changes to the TPV Policy by Linden Lab, and the way that they process changes made to the allowable Third Party Viewers into the Virtual World environment, should come as no surprise to anyone following this fiasco.

Personally I think that they are running scared. The TPV's have managed to run circles around them in so many different ways. It has just got to be a wake up call. Open Sim, is right around the corner, barking down their necks, and threatening the very existence of a once great virtual world that they, themselves created.

How fast they react to the Third Party Developer's idea's and control contributions has yet to be seen.

I think Oz is on the right track, but it is up to the Sl community to keep on his ass, and push out as many improvement's to the base viewer as possible.

If he live's up to his commitment, he will truly become a SL Legend.

Ya know, who really give's a crap, if SecondLife eventually become's irrelevant. All of the Third Party Viewers easily work on OS Grid and most of the Open Sim virtual worlds.

If a Virtual World Viewer is rogue and does not comply to Linden Lab standard's, does it really matter ?

The Interview With Oz Linden & Jessica Lyon

By Avatar JayR Cela

There have been many times here on this blog that I have been highly critical of the official LL based viewer for SL, and I have also managed to piss off a few people along the way. I really have not had a whole lot of time to take a look at the latest SnowStorm build. So I can not make any comment's as to it's progress.

I think I do find it to be very interesting and positive, the recent interview between Oz Linden and Jessica Lyon. This has just got to be the absolute best thing to ever happen in the SL World to date.

Programming something as complicated as the SL viewer is not an easy task. if you take the time to view the recorded interview between Oz & Jessica, I think you will see what I mean.

You can view it on Treet TV

Interview With Oz Linden Live Today on Treet TV

By Avatar JayR Cela

Today may well go down into the SL history books as a watershed step in the right direction for LL. At 3:00pm SLT Treet TV will have a live broadcast featuring Oz Linden, head developer of the labs Project Snowstorm Viewer 3, and Jessica Lyon of the Phoenix~FireStom team.

Personally I see this a very positive thing, and congratulate Oz for coming forward to hopefully clear up some still unanswered questions in regards to the new Third Party Viewer policies.

SecondLife : Where Did Everybody Go ?

By Avatar JayR Cela

Oh my, where did everyone go ? I'm not sure, some folks just stopped hanging out here in SL, other's had bad SL emotional, romantic relationships. It's a bit difficult to pin it down, one thing is for certain though.

    SecondLife is dying !

Windows 8 CP & SecondLife : It Works Just Fine : With A Few Tweaks

By Avatar JayR Cela

The past few day's I have been testing out the new Windows 8 Consumer Preview, so far so good. But I have to say it was a pain in the ass tweaking things out. And No you can not eliminate the Metro UI, but you can easily work around it. Once you boot into the OS you will be presented with the Metro UI screen, just click on any application and this will get you to a somewhat normal UI, and boy it gets really confusing here.

I think the first thing you may want to do is Google the heck out of tip's and tricks for Win 8 CP, and then turn off everything, all the extra crap, just shut it off. It's all garbage mostly dedicated toward's Tablet's and Smartphones, hell even trying to log off and shut down your computer is a total walk in the dark.

The next thing you want to do is download and install a small program called ViStart, this will restore your Windows Start Menu, so it looks and behave's just like windows 7 http://lee-soft.com/vistart/

Once you turn off everything that you don't need, SeceondLife will run just fine, actually it runs fine under Metro too, it is just so confusing.

Oh My, push me forward, Windows 8 may just be the turning point to get me to buy a Mac

SecondLife : Oz Linden

By Avatar JayR Cela

OK, let's start off with first things firsts. This is not an Oz Linden bashing post. This guy has done so much behind the scenes improvement's to the SL viewer, you can not even imagine. I still don't care for it much, but all of the backbone and stability of current forks of V3 have Oz to thank.

I may get critical here on this blog from time to time, and sometimes I just speak my mind. But if it were not for Oz Linden, things would really be screwed up.
